50th Birthday Bash #7: Spider-Man Balloons Birthday Card

Happy Valentine's Day! I couldn't find any comic book related Valentine cards in the local stores this year. Not surprising really especially after reading The True Shocking Messages Found in Store Bought Valentienes Featuring Spider-Man, the Avengeres, Big Hero 6, Adventure Time and more.

Today's birthday card was actually given to me by my mother and younger sister (the other two names are the latter's dogs) this year for my fiftieth natal anniversary. The front features Spider-Man hanging upside down while holding sixteen balloons an a tan background. The artwork plus the outlines of the buildings in the background has a raised texture to them:

The inside of the Spider-Man balloons birthday card is pretty simple. The only text is "Happy Birthday" on the right side (birthday is upside down):

There is no date on the back so I'm guessing it to be from 2014. The Spider-Man balloons birthday card was picked up at the local Dillons grocery store. The price was $3.99 (no different prices marked for USA and Canada):

The birthday card came with a tan colored envelope.

50th Birthday Bash #6: Superman Birthday Card With Backpack Pull Tag

Happy Friday the 13th! This is a special one for me for it is also my 50th natal anniversary. Hey, I'm just surprised that I made it this far.

Today's post spotlights the Superman birthday card with backpack pull tag. The front has Superman flying with a cut out where his S-shield is. The backpack pull tag is supposed to show through the cut out window. Unfortunately, the chain is rather long so it's hard to line it up. The text reads "Awesome, confident, and cool...":

The puffy S-shield backpack pull tag is looped on the card itself on the left interior page with a chain. The text on the right interior page reads "Just like Superman you rule! Happy birthday!":

While there is no year on the back of the Superman birthday card with backpack pull tag, "Jan14" is printed in small print in the lower right hand corner. I'm guessing this was produced in 2014. The original price was $5.99 in the USA and $7.99 in Canada (I picked it up for $1.80):

This birthday card came with a solid blue envelope.

50th Birthday Bash #5: Green Lantern Doorknob Hanger Birthday Card

This Green Lantern doorknob hanger birthday card has images from his cartoon series. The front features mostly his power ring wearing fist with the text "Power up for birthday fun! Bad guys, beware! One awesome kid (who happens to be you!) is part of the Green Lantern Force - so, Evil, get a clue!":

The doorknob hanger itself was originally attached to the front of the birthday card. Unfortunately, it became unattached with only a few folds while scanning. The front features Hal Jordan aka the Green Lantern of Space Sector 2814, Razer the Red Lantern, and Kilowog aka the Green Lantern of Space Sector 674. The text "Busy saving the universe - come back later!" is written below them.

The back of the doorknob hanger features a full pose of Hal Jordan in costume with the text "Come on in! (Power rings not required for entry.)" written on the bottom:

The interior of the Green Lantern doorknob hanger birthday card is green with whit stars. The text on the right hand panel reads "All forces for the side of crime had better turn and run - 'cause awesome's gone galactic - keep fighting! And have fun! Happy birthday":

The back features a small full figure pose of Green Lantern in front of the power ring symbol plus the logo below the Hallmark one. There is no date but I figure that it was probably produced in 2012 considering that's the year of most of the Marvel birthday cards that I have previous posted about. The original price was $3.49 in the USA and $4.49 in Canada (I picked mine up for $1.05).

The Green Lantern doorknob hanger birthday card came with a yellow envelope with orange and green stars on it.

50th Birthday Bash #4: Spider-Man 2012 Classic Birthday Card

The web-slinger was in the news earlier this week thanks to Marvel & Sony Make Deal to Bring Spider-Man to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After appearing in a Marvel movie, he will be in another solo movie from Sony where Marvel movie characters might appear. After reading Andrew Garfield Out, Younger Spider-Man, Sinister Six & Venom Still in, he may be headed for yet another cinematic reboot.

Anyway, today's birthday bash spotlights the classic birthday card that Hallmark put out in 2012. The front has a mock up of a classic Spider-Man cover. Not only is the web-slinger shown in his famous climbing down walls pose but he is also pictured standing in the upper left hand corner. There is a scratchy look to the wall-crawler and name logo. The text reads "Happy birthday to a grandson - who could be mistaken for... Spider-Man":

The interior of the card is red with a scratches. The text reads "Doing Amazing things just comes naturally to you.":

The back of the Spider-Man 2012 classic birthday card has the original price of $2.99 in the USA and $3.99 in Canada. Yes, you guessed right if you said that I picked it up for ninety cents.

The Spider-Man birthday card came with a solid blue envelope.

50th Birthday Bash #3: Avengers 2012 Top Secret Birthday Card

The Avengers 2012 Top Secret birthday card is another comic book movie tie-in collectible. This one looks like a file folder complete with S.H.I.E.L.D. written on the top tab. The front has the Avengers circle A logo along with "Top Secret Operation Birthday" written underneath it.

A word search puzzle is on the inside front cover. Hulk, Captain America and Iron Man are pictured on the opposite page with "Your Mission: Celebrate, Avengers-style and have a thrilling, high-powered, totally awesome bithday! (And that's an order)" written below them:

The back of the Avengers 2012 Top Secret birthday card shows that the original price was $2.99 in USA and $3.99 in Canada (I picked it up for ninety cents):

The birthday card came with a yellow envelope covered with orange and green stars.

50th Birthday Bash #2: Avengers 2012 Birthday Card With Trading Cards

Today's comic book related birthday card is also movie related for it has the Avengers drawn as their movie counterparts. The front cover has Captain America, Iron Man and Thor (Hulk is noticeably absent) with the text "Happy birthday to a kid with amazing powers, impressive strength, and super skills!":

Attached to the front of the birthday card are four trading cards featuring the Avengers (Hulk actually gets one too):

The back of the trading cards gives the powers and abilities of the Avengers:

The inside of the Avengers 2012 birthday card has the text "Have you thought about joining S.H.I.E.L.D.?":

The back shows that the original price was $3.49 in the USA and $4.49 in Canada:

I picked up the Avengers 2012 birthday card with trading cards for $1.05 and it came with a blue envelope that is covered partially with stars.

50th Birthday Bash #1: Thor 2011 Pop Up Birthday Card

February 13th not only falls on Friday in 2015 but it is also my fiftieth natal anniversary. I picked up some comic book related birthday cards a few weeks ago and I will be posting them here over the next several days.

To kick off my 50th birthday bash, I decided to showcase the Thor 2011 pop up birthday card. On the front is the god of thunder with "Only one as worthy as you deserves a birthday as awesome as this!" written on the bottom:

The inside is a two page spread of Thor flying with his left arm holding his hammer that serves as the pop up. The text reads "Hope your day is a royal adventure filled with fearless feats of fun! Happy Birthday":

The back shows that the Thor 2011 pop up birthday card was made by Hallmark and originally sold for $2.99 in the U.S.A. ($3.99 in Canada):

I actually picked this card up for ninety cents.

Happy 8th Blogiversary To Moongem Comics

Hard to believe that it has been eight years since I started Moongem Comics. I have made some wonderful friends and lost a few as well.

I went on a quest this morning after working at my boring offline job (maintenance at a local discount store) in search of a comic related birthday card. I was hoping to find one for an eight year old but all I could find was Disney Princesses and baseball cards. I did find some musical Batman and Superman birthday cards but they were rather pricey and I like getting inexpensive items as you can tell by my finds at the local thrift stores. I finally found a Justice League birthday card with a create your own comic book inside at the local Walmart's for only $3.97. I decided to have a little fun with it and post the results here.

The front features Superman, The Flash, Batman and Green Lantern as the Justice League (kind of bummed that Wonder Woman was not included):

The Justice League create a card comes with repostionable stickers that include sound effects, logos and team members:

Superman starts things off:

Batman and The Flash share a page:

Green Lantern shares a page with a shot of the Justice League gathered together:

I'm expecting the logo for Doctor Who to pop up any second now:

Here's the special message for the birthday boy:

This Justice League create a comic card was produced in China for Hallmark. Odd that no year was printed on it.

Finally, here are the front and back of the envelope that came with the Justice League create a comic birthday card:

Superman Chained Birthday Card 2014

My forty-ninth birthday was on Thursday, February 13th and I received a Superman chained birthday card from my mother and younger sister. The card cost $3.34 at the local Walmart and was produced by Hallmark. I actually picked it out myself since they didn't have very many superhero birthday cards to choose from (the other one was a lame Spider-Man birthday card). Superman is wearing his classic costume instead of the New 52 version. The front of the Superman chained birthday card features the upper part of him wearing chains:

The inside front features the a full figure of the Man of Steel in chains with pull tabs from the chin down to reveal a hidden picture while the opposite side features the text:

Here is what the revealed picture looks like along with the right side pull tabs open:

Here is the same picture looks like along with the left side pull tabs open:

The top of the back features Superman flying along with the S shield almost in the center:

The envelope is the same as the one I got last year with the retro Marvel Comics birthday card:

Retro Marvel Comics Birthday Card From 2010

I received a retro Marvel Comics birthday card from 2010 this past Wednesday for my forty-eighth birthday. I call it retro because the artwork looks to be from the 1970s. My sister actually let me pick it out and it was either this one or one from the Captain America movie. I like this one better since it has Spider-Man, Thor, Iron Man and Captain America. The back of the card has the year 2010 printed on it but I do not think the store has had it in stock for that long since I don't remember seeing it last year.
