Werewolf by Night: Blood Moon Rise Special

Marvel released Werewolf by Night: Blood Moon Rise one-shot special this week. It's loosely based on the tv special.

Here's the official summery: "From the director of the critically-acclaimed Marvel Studios Special Presentation WEREWOLF BY NIGHT, MICHAEL GIACCHINO, comes a first-of-its kind tale of terror in the Marvel Universe with one goal in mind: to show you why WEREWOLF BY NIGHT is as captivating as ever, with over fifty years of comics history — and a hundred times as many bodies in his wake!"

This one-shot special has two stories. "Nail in the Coffin" has Jack Russell aka Werewolf by Night as a prisoner of Count Dracula and his first meeting with Man-Thing. "A Howling Nightmare" features Jack Russell, his younger sister Lissa aka the Were-Demon by Night and Jake Gomez aka another Werewolf by Night. The trio is known as the Wolf Pack by Night and they clash with Nightmare.

Women Wednesday: Monster High: World's Scare #1

Monster High: World's Scare #1 from IDW Publishing is out today.

Here's the spooky summery found on the back cover: "Surprise, ghouls — I'm baaack. Did you miss me? For those unacquainted, let me reintrobooce myself. I'm Monster High's purrmiere gossip account, CryptCrier. I know everything and everyghoul. And here is my juiciest piece of gossip yet: IDW is bringing readers a faboolous new miniseries from fang favorites Jacque Aye and Caroline Shuda, starting with a double-sized first issue. Frankie Stein, Draculaura, Clawdeen Wolf, Cleo de Nile, and Lagoona Blue are starting a new scaremester at Monster High, so this is a creeperific jumping-on point for new fangs. How eekciting. This year, the World's Scare is in New Salem! The brightest minds are gathering to exhibit their latest breakthroughs that could change monster-kind furever. And Monster High's very own Frankie Stein is dreaming up something monstrous to honor her late father, Headmaster Frankenstein. With a little help from her fiends, Frankie is sure to shock the judges."

Women Wednesday: Vampirella: Armageddon #1 Cover Gallery

Vampirella: Armageddon #1 (2025) hits the newsstands today. Here is the official summery: "Return to the future world of Vampirella and Sepulcher City in Vampirella: Armageddon, from Vampirella writer Tom Sniegoski and artist Kewber Baal! Picking up from where our last series (Vampirella Strikes!) left off, Vampirella faces internal and external forces of chaos as a new threat arrives to stare her down! A threat… not of this mortal plane!"

Of course, there are several variant covers to collect. One of my favorite covers is the Universal Monsters cover by Mark Spears since it has Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, Wolfman, the Mummy and the Creature of the Black Lagoon.

Goodnight Ozzy Osbourne

Sad news for Ozzy Osbourne dies weeks after farewell show at the age of seventy-six. I first read the news on Facebook earlier this afternoon and thought it was another hoax but it looks legit. He will be greatly missed but he will live forever in music.

Gargoyles: Demona #1

Disney's Gargoyles: Demona #1 was released earlier this week. Here's the summery: "After kicking off with a special prologue story in Dynamite Entertainment’s Free Comic Book Day issue #0, the long-awaited tale of Goliath’s former love and sworn enemy of the Manhattan Clan gets underway in earnest with a return to the Dark Ages and the aftermath of the destruction of Castle Wyvern! The year is 1093, and the now-immortal Demona has become a lonely and hunted creature. Bereft of both clan and home after her betrayal of Scotland’s king, she wanders south to Northumberland in search of a safe haven – only to find that her old nemesis, Canmore, is raiding the city. Canmore’s destruction is visited upon human and Gargoyle alike, and when she discovers the depths of his cruelty and the fate of her kind at his hands, Demona’s fury sets in motion a cycle of vengeance that will last for centuries – and may yet consume the entire world!"

Blood Type #1 dropped today from EC Comics. Here's the official summery: "When you’re a vampire, everybody sucks…sooner or later! Meet Ada, an immortal vampire whose misdeeds have landed her on the doorstep of an idyllic Caribbean resort…an island paradise teeming with wealthy tourists and superstitious locals—an ample food supply for the thirsty vamp looking to get away from it all! But as Ada stalks the boundaries of her new hunting ground, she’ll soon become embroiled in a deadly game of cat and mouse by moonlight…as an older, wiser, and entirely different kind of predator reveals its own carnal hunger for greed and power. Who will survive when a brand-new kind of Blood Type declares war on a cunning bloodsucker with nothing left to lose…and what will be left of them?!"

Note: This issue is narrated by Grave-Digger.

Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong 2 #1

DC Comics teams up with Legendary Comics again with Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong 2 #1 that came out earlier this week. The cover features Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman with Godzilla and Kong in the background. What makes this interesting is the wedding of Barry Allen aka the Flash and Iris West. Only Clark Kent aka Superman, Bruce Wayne aka Batman and Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman are actually at the wedding while several members of the Justice League and Teen Titans watch from the Hall of Justice. Amanda Waller and her Suicide Squad are also in this issue and a giant King Shark fights Godzilla. There's more but I won't spoil it all here.

Morbius DVD

I picked up this Morbius dvd at the local Walmart's for five dollars last Tuesday. I finally watched it last night and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would considering all the negative reviews that I had read. Yes, it's a super vampire movie with more action than horror but still a fun ride. It was worth the five dollars just for the special features alone.

Superhero Saturday: Killer Kobra: The Hunt Begins

When I first saw the cover for Killer Kobra: The Hunt Begins #1, I thought DC Comics was rebooting their super villainous Kobra group. Instead, Zenoscope Entertainment is introducing a new "shadowy vigilante that strikes with the fury of a thousand venoms." Basically, he's a monster hunter that uses the cobra school of kung fu.

The issue actually starts with a group of college students hiking in the Ozarks during their Spring Break. They are attacked and killed by a Bigfoot. The issue then switches to Philadepia (yes, that's how they spell it), where Killer Kobra out of costume is sparring with a talking mongoose named Chopstick. He looks at a photo of his parents before getting a call about the Bigfoot attack. The action shifts to a mysterious man ordering a mysterious woman agent to bring in or eliminate Kobra and Chopstick. We switch back to the hero and his animal sidekick who finds trouble in a roadhouse in the Ozarks. He easily wins the fight with his mastery of Cobra Kung Fu but is chased off by the bar owner with a rifle. The pair make their way to the campsite but is attacked by the Bigfoot. Killer Kobra, now in full costume, does his fancy martial arts moves against the huge creature, who retreats. He and Chopsticks chases the monster in the woods in a comical chase scene before the issue literally ends on a cliffhanger.

This was a pretty good first issue and I love the running gag with Chopsticks being mistaken for a ferret. I highly recommend reading Killer Kobra: The Hunt Begins #1 if you like a little humor with your martial arts superhero.

DC vs. Vampires: World War V #8

I can't believe that Countdown to Halloween 2024 Day 15: DC vs. Vampires: World War V #3 was my last post about the horror series. DC vs. Vampires: World War V #8 is now out and the cover features Ra's al Ghul wearing Batman's costume. John Constantine joins several magic users trapped in the House of Mystery. Deadman possesses a baby and speaks to Ra's al Ghul aka BatGhul and Green Lantern Alfred Pennyworth.

This issue also features part one of "Wildcat: Going the Distance" as a backup story that finds Wildcat looking for his son, Tommy. This almost makes up for what happens to him in the current JSA issue.

Grimm Fairy Tales 20th Anniversary Pinup Special

Zenescope Entertainment released the Grimm Fairy Tales 20th Anniversary Pinup Special earlier this week. Having a sexy Tinkerbelle on the cover is a stroke of genius since Spring started this week. Along with several pinups of your favorite women from various fairy tales, there is also a never before published short story that is a prelude to Grimm Fairy Tales: Once Upon the End of Time.

One of my favorite pinups features Snow White having her white panties exposed. You won't be seeing that in the live action movie that was released in theaters yesterday.

You also won't be seeing this version of the Wicked Witch in the Wicked movie:

Women Wednesday: Zatanna #1 and #2

Zatanna #1 came out last month and #2 came out today. I decided to read both of them today and they are both pretty good. The first issue introduces us to some of her crew for her new magic show including Adam. The ghost of the actress known only as the Lady White is also introduced.

The cover of Zatanna shows her with Blue Devil, who also appears inside along with Bobo the Detective Chimp and Madame Xanadu. We also find out that the Lady White and the being known as Adam has ties to Brother Night. I can't wait to read the next issue to see where this series goes.

Marvel Avengers and Other Heroes #2 Magazine

I picked up this Marvel Avengers and Other Heroes #2 magazine at the local Dollar Tree this morning. The cover features Iron Man, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel and Count Dracula. Most of it is dedicated to the Marvel Avengers Secret Wars story titled "Wings in the Night!" The Avengers (Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, Ant-Man, Iron Man and Vision) battles Count Dracula as Chthon possesses his body. There are activities like mazes, match games, puzzles and how to draw. Members of the Guardians of the Galaxy only appear once on a match game page. Spider-Man and his friends also appear only once with a two-page crossword puzzle (this should have been devoted to the Avengers). Overall, the magazine is not bad for the price, but I have the feeling that I have read this story before.

T-shirt Thursday: A Nightmare on Elm Street Claw T-shirt

I picked up this A Nightmare on Elm Street Claw claw t-shirt at the local Walmart's on Monday. The regular price was $8.98 but I got it for two dollars. I picked up another one for my sister who loves the original Freddy Krueger. I would have picked up another one for me but they only had two in XXL. It has the phase "Ready or not here I come" in red in the lower right-hand corner. The t-shirt has Freddy Krueger's claw and bloody claw marks. I'll be wearing this all year long and not just for Halloween.

Elvira and Conan at Universal Studios

The picture below is from my Elvira scrapbook and I believe I clipped it out of a local Kansas newspaper in 1985. Elvira is shown in the arms of Conan (Richard Brose). The Adventures of Conan the Barbarian: A Sword and Sorcery Spectacular ran from 1983 to 1993 at Universal Studios. I did a Google Lens search but couldn't find an exact match. Check out the cool dragon.
