The cover to DCeased #4 features Sgt. Rock and Easy Company being ambushed by zombified versions of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. I really would have liked to see this battle take place inside this issue. Instead, the highlights include a giant zombified Giganta attacking Metropolis and a microscopic zombified Atom causing Captain Atom to go nuclear in Washington, D.C..

Christmas Countdown 2014 Day 4: DC Super Star Holiday Special Part 2
Today's Christmas Countdown 2014 continues the look at DC Super Star Holiday Special (Spring 1980).
The House of Mystery story is actually three short stories told by the horror hosts at DC Comics. The three witch sisters (Morded, Mildred, and Cynthia) from The Witching Hour tells one followed by Cain telling another. Destiny from Secrets of Haunted House breaks in to tell a story. The Phantom Stranger and Madame Xanadu shows up after everyone starts bickering. Poor Abel never gets to tell his tale.
Sgt. Rock of Easy Company in "The Longest Night!":
Finally, the Legion of Super-Heroes are featured in "Star Light, Star Bright... Farthest Star I See Tonight!":
I love the last panel with Superboy and the Legionnaires gathered around a Christmas tree:
Wishing everyone a safe and Merry Christmas!

G.I. Combat #217
I found a used Canon LiDE 20 scanner with program disc at a local thrift store for five dollars this morning and snatched it up to replace my bulky UMAX Astra 2000U scanner. The best part was that it worked so my first scan was the cover of G.I. Combat #217 (Dec/Jan 1979/1980). The cover artist was Joe Kubert and the dollar comic has a total of six stories. The first story features the Haunted Tank in "The General Died Twice!" Next comes O.S.S. in "The Pigeon Spies", a one-page article about the signal corps titled "Getting The Message Through" and then the Hidden War featured in "A Fine Day For A Hanging". The Haunted Tank returns in another story title "Save The Enemy!" That is followed by "The 3000-Mile Nightmare", a sizzling sky-war special. Finally, the Haunted Tank returns for "Don't Sell Your Dog Tags Cheap".
My issue has seen better days since it is dog eared and very worn. The covers are about to separate from the rest of the comic book but at least all the pages are intact. I also have G.I. Combat #219, 220, 228 and 235.

Blackhawk #1 And #2
I picked up the first two issues of the 1987 Blackhawk mini series from DC Comics with artwork and story by Howard Chaykin. The first book is titled "Blood & Iron" while the second book is titled "Red Snow". I have been a Chaykin fan ever since picking up American Flagg several years ago. Blackhawk gets kicked out the United States for being a Communist. His arch-nemesis, Death Meyhew, finds out that he has a terminal illness and is determined to get him at all costs. This mini series is more for mature audiences since it does contain sexual situations and violence. The second book introduces Natalie Reed as Lady Blackhawk. I greatly enjoyed both issues and hope to find the third issue one day.
