Breaking News: NBC Cancels Constantine

Not really surprised but this sucks just the same:

NBC has confirmed cancellation of Constantine.

A blogger for BuzzFeed posted an article about network renewals and cancellations where she tweeted she fact-checked the information with every network. Constantine has been on the bubble ever since NBC didn't order a full series for the first Season.

Fans of the series quickly took to social networks in an attempt to save the series with the #SaveConstantine hashtag, which regularly trended worldwide.

Showrunner Daniel Cerone has been vocal on Twitter as well. His last tweet as of April 6th read that NBC invited him to pitch Constantine Season 2 in late April, and added Constantine was not dead and to stay hopeful.

Now with, apparently, NBC confirming the cancellation of Constantine with BuzzFeed, it seems all hope for a Season 2 is gone.

There were rumblings that Constantine could be picked up by NBC's sister network, SyFy; however, an exec for SyFy stated the rumor wasn't true.

If Constantine was going to continue, scripts for Season 1 episodes that weren't used, would have been spun into Season 2.

The finale of Constantine saw a big reveal, which explained a lot, but also left fans with more questions than answers and the desire to see more.

Previously, NBC executives offered the reason for the potential cancellation of Constantine was due to live-viewings not getting high enough ratings, though subsequent DVR and online viewings were said to do well.

Warner Bros. will be using Constantine in the Guillermo del Toro Justice League Dark movie, which is separate than the TV show, but Guillermo delo Toro did state he would be open to using Matt Ryan.

Constantine's Short Season

According to NBC Hits Brakes On "Constantine," But Season 2 Still Possible, the tv series will only have thirteen episodes for season one and "remains in contention for a second-season renewal". I urge every one to watch the show if you have not done so yet. If you enjoy horror shows like Grimm and Supernatural, then you will enjoy Constantine.

Countdown to Halloween 2014 Day 30: Gaia Online Shopkeepers In Costumes

Every year Gaia Online throws a big online Halloween party. This year's theme is Demon vs Angel but the fun part is that the shopkeepers dress in costumes and hand out candy. Players collect twenty-two pieces of candy that can be traded in to collect Halloween collectibles. There are some costumes that are anime-inspired and I have no clue as to who they are supposed to be while others are from comic books, tv and movies. I've collected some of the more fun shopkeepers in costume.

First off is Bildeau, a robot, dressed up as Leonardo from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles:

Next, Ribateau, another robot, is wearing a Michelangelo mask and eating pizza from TMNT:

Preacher Coming To AMC

Cool news for Vertigo fans: AMC Orders Pilot For 'Preacher' Series. I would much rather watch this than a spin off of The Walking Dead.

Vertigo Looses Hellblazer

Looks like Vertigo's longest-running comic Hellblazer is being canceled in February, 2013 with #300 before DC Comics launches Constantine in March with a new #1. Kind of sad really but makes sense since he is a main player in Justice League Dark.

Halloween Countdown 2009 Day 28: The Witching #2, #3 and #4

The Witching was a Vertigo series about the Triple Goddess and witchcraft that lasted for ten issues with Tara McPherson doing all the covers. Jonathan Vankin wrote all the stories and Leigh Gallagher did the pencils. I only have #2 (September 2004) titled "Earth Oddity", #3 (October 2004) titled "Who Let the Cats Out?" and #4 (November 2004) titled "All These Friends and Lovers". The Witching #2 did contain a collectible Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" poster (#3 of 6).

Halloween Countdown 2009 Day 15: The House of Secrets #147 and House of Secrets #3

Gray Morrow did the cover for The House of Secrets #147 (August/September 1977) for DC Comics. Abel the caretaker tries his hand at fixing the roof while vultures watch. The chilling tales include "A Gift of Evil" and "The See-Through Thief". "Abel's Fables" is a one page feature that gives a twist on the princess kissing a frog. Interesting ads includes three free baseball cards on Hostess treats, Daisy BB rifle, the Official Star Trek Poster Magazine, Crazy Crabs, the new Doom Patrol appearing in Showcase #94, a half page subscription ad, a half page Swamp Thing Saga ad, Five Star Superhero Spectacular (featuring Batman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman and the Atom), one hundred toy soldier set in footlocker for only $1.75 and Sea World (featuring Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman and Robin on waterskis). This issue also features rules on entering the Great Superman Movie Contest. "The House of Secrets Speaks" is one page full of letters. The "Daily Planet" featured is volume 77, issue 20 with "Metal Men Vs. Dr. Strangeglove" as the main headline.

The House of Secrets #3 (December 1996) is the reboot of the series from Vertigo and features the third part of "Foundation". I am not too crazy about the art by Teddy Kristiansen, who also did the cover. Interesting ads include Mythos: The Final Tour, Preacher Special: The Story of You-Know-You and Millenium tv series.

Thrift Store Finds: Bat Masterson And Constantine

I found two books at a local thrift store this morning that I just could not pass up. The first was Bat Masterson by Wayne C. Lee with illustrations by Adam Szwejkowski that was published by Whitman in 1960. This was an authorized edition based on the television series starring Gene Barry. This is in better shape than the Annie Oakley in Danger at Diablo book that I found a few weeks ago at another thrift store for three dollars. The price of Bat Masterson only set me back a dollar.

The second book was Constantine by John Shirley published by Pocket Books in 2005. This is the novelization of the movie based on the Hellblazer comic book published by DC Comics under the Vertigo imprint. I actually enjoyed the movie but maybe it is because I have only read a handful of the comics. Constantine was also a dollar.

No Preacher For HBO

Comics Continuum reports MARK STEVEN JOHNSON: NO PREACHER ON HBO, which is a shame for I believe that the Vertigo comic series would make an interesting tv series. He refused to water down the content for the network. There is a rumor that someone is trying to get the rights to make a movie.

I have only read a few issues of Preacher and I liked it. My favorite character is Cassidy the vampire.

HBO Developing Preacher

Vertigo's Preacher is being developed as an one hour television series on HBO according to various sources. The comic book series ran from 1995 to 2000 and created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillion. The series was about a down and out Texas preacher possesessed by a being conceived between an angel and a demon known as Genesis.

Mark Steven Johnson is writing the plot for Preacher and Howard Deutch is planning to direct. Johnson is known for his work on the Daredevil and Ghost Rider movies.
