DC Super Friends: Triple Threat Children's Book

The last children's book that I picked up at the local Dollar Tree on Monday was DC Super Friends: Triple Threat. The story was written by Steve Korte with illustrations by Erik Doescher, Mike DeCarlo and David Tanguay. The cover features Batman, Robin, Flash and Cyborg. The Super Friends go up against Joker, Riddler and Penguin before Aquaman shows up at the end. The story and artwork are pretty fun but I'm a little miffed that Aquaman is not also on the cover.

DC Super Friends: Battle Below Children's Book

Streaky the Supercat, Supergirl, Superman and Hal Jordan aka Green Lantern is on the cover of DC Super Friends: Battle Below children's book. I found it on Monday at the local Dollar Tree and had to get it. The story was written by Steve Korte with illustrations by Erik Doescher, Mike DeCarlo and David Tanguay. The four DC Super Friends team up against Sinestro, Artocitus and his cat, Dex-Starr. Yes, that's one Green Lantern, one Yellow Lantern and two Red Lanterns. The story spotlights Streaky and the art is stylish for kids so overall it's a fun children's book.

Imaginext DC Super Friends Series 1 Superboy Prime

I picked up this Imaginext DC Super Friends Series 1 Superboy Prime action figure yesterday at the local Walmart's. He's pretty cool looking for one of the most hated characters from DC Comics. I love the way that his left eyebrow is raised plus he has a red cloth cape. His accessory is the kryptonite cuff bar but it does not glow in the dark (a missed opportunity if you ask me). I only need Aquaman and Batman to complete the set.

Imaginext DC Super Friends Series 1 Martian Manhunter

I picked up three more DC Super Friends Series 1 mystery bags this morning. Naturally, one of them was Blue Beetle, which I already have. Luckily, I managed to get a Martian Manhunter. He's pretty cool looking for he has a cloth cape. However, his accessory is a little lame for it's basically a clear stand that you plug in to the hole in the bottom of one of his feet. I guess the purpose it to make it look like he's floating. All the other action figures got something to put in their hands. Poor Martian Manhunter got an accessory that you put in his foot. Guess who gets to float in the back when it's time to display them all?

Imaginext DC Super Friends Series 1 Man-Bat

I don't know if I was lucky that I found this Imaginext DC Super Friends Series 1 Man-Bat action figure on Tuesday or not. He has to be one of the saddest looking Man-Bats that I have ever seen. For starters, the wings on his arms looks more like catfish fins. He appears to be wearing a utility belt harness contraption that crosses his chest and back. To top it off, his accessory is a katana sword. I guess the claws on his feet and hands are not enough. At least, his face is scary enough and he does have large bat-like ears.

Imaginext DC Super Friends Series 1 Swamp Thing

I picked up three more Imaginext DC Super Friends Series 1 mystery bags on Tuesday. Naturally, I got Bane again so I'm thinking he's probably pretty common. I did luck out and found a Imaginext DC Super Friends Series 1 Swamp Thing action figure. His entire legs glow in the dark along with most of his arms and torso. Hard to see in the below photo but he has red eyes. His accessory is a brown vine staff that I had some trouble putting in his hand.

Imaginext DC Super Friends Series 1 Blue Beetle

Blue Beetle is the third and final Imaginext DC Super Friends Series 1 action figure that I found last Tuesday. His right hand and forearm is covered by an energy weapon. The wings on his back are translucent blue. Blue Beetle's accessory is a translucent blue shield.

Will I get any more Imaginext DC Super Friends Series 1 mystery bags? Probably because I would love to have Swamp Thing and Man-Bat. Overall, they are not bad action figures for under five dollars.

Imaginext DC Super Friends Series 1 Bizarro

Bizarro is the second Imaginext DC Super Friends Series 1 action figure that I found last week. He's so ugly that he's cute. What makes him really cool is that he has a fabric cape (non-removable, of course). Bizarro's accessory is a parking meter that he ripped up from the ground. His face and hands looks like they should glow in the dark but they don't.

Imaginext DC Super Friends Series 1 Bane

The first Imaginext DC Super Friends Series 1 mystery bag that I opened on Tuesday had Bane. Part of the action figure's costume glows in the dark in front and back. I was really hoping that the white part of his mask would have also glowed but no such luck. Bane also comes with a weapon accessory that fits best in his right hand.

Imaginext DC Super Friends Series 1 Wrapper and Insert

I picked up three Imaginext DC Super Friends Series 1 mystery bags on Tuesday at the local Walmart's. Each package was $4.72, and they only had less than a dozen left. I didn't even see these before so I'm not exactly sure when they were stocked but the insert has a 2023 copyright date. Each action figure comes with an accessory.

The wrapper shows Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman in the lower left-hand corner. I'm only showing the front of the wrapper because the back is too shiny for my scanner to pick up the small print.

The outer side of the insert also shows Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman along with a gorilla with a battle axe, a female Troll and dinosaurs.

The inner side of the insert is the checklist for all nine action figures in the Imaginext DC Super Friends Series 1 set. The set includes Swamp Thing, Bane, Man-Bat, Batman, Martian Manhunter, Superboy Prime, Bizarro, Aquaman and Blue Beetle. Swamp Thing and Bane as glow in the dark features. Notice that there is a Batman action figure but no Superman and Wonder Woman figures.

DC Super Friends Notebooks

My sister actually picked up three DC Super Friends Notebooks at the local Dillons a few weeks ago because they were on sale. The one featuring Batman and his rogue gallery was sixteen cents while the other two were twelve cents each. Now that is what I call one hell of a price reduction.

DC Super Friends Jumbo and Coloring Book

I was clearing out my picture file on my computer when I realized that I have never posted about the DC Super Friends Jumbo and Coloring Book that I picked up some time ago. I can't remember if I bought it at the local Dollar General or the local Dollar Tree. I also can't remember if I got it last year or the year before. Sucks getting old but the coloring book are full of cute kid versions of my favorite superheroes from DC Comics. The cover features Supergirl, Superman, Batman, Batman and Flash. Aquaman, Wonder Woman and a few other super friends are also featured inside. The back cover is a match game that you can cut out and play.

Superhero Sunday: JLA Adventures: Trapped In Time

I did a little shopping at the local Dollar Tree yesterday morning and found this odd superhero movie. JLA Adventures: Trapped In Time is a original movie that came out on DVD in 2014 and is not based on any comic book. It opens with the Justice League of America that includes Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman, Robin, Flash, Cyborg and Aquaman battling the Legion of Doom that includes Lex Luthor, Toyman, Black Mantra, Solomon Grundy, Gorilla Grodd, Captain Cold, Cheetah and Bizarro fighting in the Arctic. The Super Friends...er, JLA defeats the Legion of Doom but Lex Luthor is presumed dead.
Jump to the 31st Century where the teenage Dawnstar and Karate Kid are taking a tour of a superhero museum where Lex Luthor is encased in a block of ice. Karate Kid thinks they should already be members of the Legion of Super-Heroes and decides to show off. He acts like he is going to punch the block of ice holding Luthor but stops short. Of course, the ice breaks anyway and the super villain awakes from his suspended animation sleep. He watches a hologram video of Superman's origins and finds that he is actually Clark Kent. Lex steals the hourglass belonging to the trapped Time Trapper and goes back in time with Dawnstar and Karate Kid following.
Lex Luthor gathers most of the Legion of Doom because Captain Cold, Black Mantra and Gorilla Grodd decided to pass. Dawnstar and Karate Kid overhear Luthor's plans before sneaking out of the Legion of Doom's flying helmet headquarters that was floating in a swamp. The teenage superhero wannabes make their way to the Hall of Justice but Robin attacks them. The Super Friends...er, JLA break up the fight and hear what the future superhero wannabes have to say. I won't spoil the rest here but it basically deals with the Legion of Doom going back to Smallville to prevent the Kents from taking in baby Kal El.

I could swear that I was watching a bizarre episode of the Super Friends except for the different costumes and personalities of Superman (no trunks), Batman (angrier), Robin (attitude), Wonder Woman (sword and skirted armor) and Aquman (short sleeves). Even Dawnstar and Karate Kid were a lot different looking than they were in the 1970s. Despite the changes, I actually found myself enjoying the animated movie more than I thought I would. There are some funny moments especially when the Legion of Doom tries to take Superbaby and send him back into space. If you want an oddity to your collection of superhero cartoons, then you might want to get a copy here.

Red DC Super Friends Party Cup From Hallmark

The local discount store where I work as maintenance started their going out of business sale last week. I picked up a red DC Super Friends party cup from Hallmark on sale for eighty cents instead of the one dollar normal price. The inside of the cup is red while the background is mostly yellow and gold. The DC Super Friends features Aquaman, Hawkman, Superman, Krypto, Flash, Robin, Cyborg, Green Lantern and Batman. This is an all-male team but I would have like to have seen at least Wonder Woman included. Unfortunately, the blue DC Super Friends party cup from Hallmark was already sold out and this was the store's last red one.

Second picture of red DC Super Friends party cup from Hallmark featuring Hawkman, Robin and Superman

Yes, I have been looking for another job since the store is set to close at the end of January 2015.

Post Super Heroes Mini Comics And Game Cards

In 1980, Post cereal offered mini comics featuring DC Super Heroes in their cereal boxes. The only cereal that I remember getting them in is Super Sugar Crisp. I would have been fifteen at the time when this came out in the stores.

There were four mini comics in the set with each having sixteen pages. I managed to get a complete set plus an extra one featuring the Super Heroes. Each measure 3 1/4" x 4 1/4" (however, there were some that not cut exactly to size). The mini comics include Super Heroes (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Robin) in "The Secret of the Sinister Lighthouse!", Batman in "The Joker's Last Laugh!", Superman in "Terra-Man's Skyway Robbery!" and Wonder Woman in "The Angle Menace!" There really should have been a fifth mini comic featuring Aquaman since he is featuring in "The Secret of the Sinister Lighthouse!" Robin is not only in the Super Heroes adventure but also in the Batman one.

Each of the mini comics came with a instant winner game card. The game cards measure 2 1/2" x 3 1/4". There are six stars that you must scratch off and match with the top star. The prizes included a trip to Hollywood, bicycle, kite, comic book and flying disc. The prize box is located in the lower right hand corner and none of mine were winners. What I like about these game cards is that not only does the big guns appear but also some Golden Age super heroes like Dr. Mid-Nite, Flash and Green Lantern. Batgirl and Captain Marvel also appear. I did find it odd that the Riddler is one of my game cards. I do not five game cards because I remember getting two featuring Robin at the top (I either used it for something else or tossed it).
