Women Wednesday: DC Comics Ooshies Hawkgirl Classic Pencil Topper

Breaking News: I finally found a DC Comics Ooshies Classic Hawkgirl Pencil Topper to complete my set. I picked up the last eighteen mystery bags that the local Walmart's had for a dollar each on Tuesday morning. Naturally, she's slightly shorter and thinner than the DC Comics Ooshies Hawkman Classic Pencil Topper. Along with her, I also got Aquaman, Batman Glitter, five Cyborgs, Flash, two Hawkmans, three Lex Luthors, Robin Bronze, Tornado Bronze and Wonder Woman Rebirth so let me know if you need any of them (Cyborg and Lex seems to be the most common).

DC Comics Ooshies Hawkman Classic Pencil Topper

This DC Comics Ooshies Hawkman Classic pencil topper is ready for battle for he has a mace in his right hand. I find his yellow wings an odd choice since they should be gray. At least, he doesn't have a hairy chest. I really need to Hawkgirl now to go with him.

DC Comics Ooshies Pop and Top Wrappers

I found seven small baskets full of DC Comics Ooshies Pop and Top mystery pencil toppers at the local Wal-Mart's. They were in the clearance aisle and marked down to a dollar each. I picked up only one from each basket because this was the first time that I have seen them. I will be posting about what I found in separate posts. The wrappers features Cheetah, Hawkman and Wonder Woman while also stating that the limited edition is the Batman Glitter Gold. I was hoping that I could find a picture of the wrappers online but I couldn't find this particular one. I tried to flatten them as best as I could and scan them so excuse all the wrinkles.

Women Wednesday: The Huntress on Justice Society of America #1 Cover

The Huntress (Helana Wayne) is the sole survivor on the cover of Justice Society of America #1 from DC Comics. The former JSA members are "ghosts" in the background and include Green Lantern (Alan Scott), Flash (Jay Garrick), Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Wildcat, Sandman, Hourman and Starman. This continues the story started in The New Golden Age one-shot issue and is a must read before reading this issue. Catwoman is also inside this issue along with a very interesting JSA that her and the Huntress leads twenty-six years from now.

The New Golden Age Ad

Geoff Johns is bringing back the Golden Age of DC Comics in a one-shot special called The New Golden Age coming out on November 8, 2022. This will lead to a new Justice Society of America title and Stargirl: The Lost Children. The new JSA team will consist of Hawkman, Flash (Jay Garrick), Green Lantern (Alan Scott), Dr. Fate, Huntress (Helena Wayne), Power Girl, Wildcat (Yolanda Montez), Dr. Mid-Nite (Beth Chapel), Jakeem and Thunderbolt. I can't wait for the one-shot special and the new titles.

Countdown to Halloween 2022 Day 13: DC's Terrors Through Time Cover

DC's Terrors Through Time is this year's treat from DC Comics. The cover features Deadman, Swamp Thing, Phantom Stranger, Poison Ivy, Robin and Superboy. Inside are eight tales of traumatizing time-travel. First up is "The Longest Night" featuring the Phantom Stranger followed by "Trick or Treat featuring the Super Sons (Damian Wayne aka Robin and Jon Kent aka Superboy). The Gotham Sirens (Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn and Catwoman) are featured in "The Pueo Promise" set in 1995 while Swamp Thing is featured in "Half-Life". Surprisingly, the Justice Society of America (Dr. Mid-Nite, Dr/ Fate. Black Canary, the Atom, Green Lantern, Hawkman and the Flash) appears in "The Midnight Hour" set in 1944 while the Green Lanterns (Kar-Von and Jan) appears in "A New Darkness" set in 2447. "Blood Lost and Found" features the Demon Etrigan while Damian Wayne returns with Deadman in "The Haunting of Wayne Manor".

Women Wednesday: Black Adam - The Justice Society Files: Cyclone #1 Covers

Black Adam - The Justice Society Files: Cyclone #1 one-shot special was released today by DC Comics with two covers. Cover A features artwork of the character while cover B features Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone as she appears in the movie.

In this issue, Hawkman recuits Cyclone to his new Justice Society team. She doesn't even appear in her costume yet and doesn't have total control over her powers. The back up story is the second chapter of "Lost & Found" featuring Adrianna Tomaz aka Isis.

Black Adam - The Justice Society Files: Hawkman #1 Covers

DC Comics released Black Adam - The Justice Society Files: Hawkman #1 one-shot special yesterday with two covers. Cover A features Carter Hall aka Hawkman (protrayed by Aldris Hodge in the movie) in flight with Black Adam (protrayed by Dwayne Johnson in the upcoming movie) in the upper right corner.

Cover B features Hawkman ready to do battle while holding a spiked mace and sheild with a faded image of him in the background. This cover is by far my favorite one of the two.

The issue is basically the origin on the Gentleman Ghost and is a pretty good read. The story continues next month in Black Adam - The Justice Society Files: Cyclone #1 one-shot special. There is also the first chapter of the back up story called "Lost & Found" featuring Adrianna Tomaz, who will later become Isis (protrayed by Sarah Shahi in the movie).

Women Wednesday: Hawkwoman From Hawkman #22

I just finished reading Hawkman #22 and the best part is Hawkwoman. I noticed that I haven't posted much about her on here so I decided to change that today since it's Women Wednesday.

Here's the cover for Hawkman #22 from DC Comics that hits the stands today and I highly recommend that you pick up a copy too:

First Look: Hawkman and Hawkgirl from Legends of Tomorrow

I know most of you probably already saw the image below of Hawkman (Falk Hentschel) and Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee) from the upcoming Legends of Tomorrow tv series by now but I'm posting it here anyway. The costumes are interesting for there is a lot less skin from previous versions. There is also a lot of brown. No wings are shown since they will probably be computer generated.

Falk Hentschel Cast as Hawkman

According to Report: Marvel Villain Hired As DC's HAWKMAN, Falk Hentschel has been cast as Carter Hall aka Hawkman in the Arrow and Flash crossover that will set the stage for DC's Legends Of Tomorrow. You might know him from his role as a villain Marcus Scarlotti on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..

Convergence: Justice Society of America #1

Convergence: Justice Society of America #1 (June 2015) is a great tribute to the pre-Crisis Earth 2 superhero group consisting of Hawkman, the Flash, Green Lantern and Dr. Fate. The artwork for the cover is okay but not the greatest.

The interior artwork really shines:
Page 1 of Convergence: Justice Society of America #1 from DC Comics
The story is also one of the better ones in this big event. The four superheroes are stuck in Metropolis as old men without powers after the dome appears. Jay Garrick aka the Flash visits Kent Nelson aka Dr. Fate in the hospital since he's in a coma. He then visits Carter Hall aka Hawkman and his son, Hector, who is also in Convergence: Infinity Inc. #1., at their rooftop garden. Alan Scott aka Green Lantern calls Jay and tells him to get to the hospital quick. Kent has opened his eyes and then Telos does his speech. The dome disappears and a weapon firing machine attacks the city. The guys thinks it is from Qward the anti matter universe. Kent gets up and tells the rest that they can be superheroes again one last time. Of course, they all accept and regain their youth and powers.m

Red DC Super Friends Party Cup From Hallmark

The local discount store where I work as maintenance started their going out of business sale last week. I picked up a red DC Super Friends party cup from Hallmark on sale for eighty cents instead of the one dollar normal price. The inside of the cup is red while the background is mostly yellow and gold. The DC Super Friends features Aquaman, Hawkman, Superman, Krypto, Flash, Robin, Cyborg, Green Lantern and Batman. This is an all-male team but I would have like to have seen at least Wonder Woman included. Unfortunately, the blue DC Super Friends party cup from Hallmark was already sold out and this was the store's last red one.

Yes, I have been looking for another job since the store is set to close at the end of January 2015.

Michael Shanks As Hawkman

TV Guide Magazine's Hawkman Swoops Into Smallville has the following first look at Michael Shanks in costume as Hawkman:
Michael Shanks as Hawkman on Smallville

The costume is based on the current version of the Winged Wonder. The helmet does look a lot better than the one that was worn by Bill Nuckols on the 1979's tv special, Legends of the Superheroes:

Yes, that's Black Canary (Danuta Rylko Soderman) and Captain Marvel (Garrett Craig) in the picture with him.

Blog Alert: Being Carter Hall

Being Carter Hall is one man's journey...into hawk fandom. The blog is dedicated to the Winged Wonder from DC Comics and is just getting started.
