Dollar Tree Superman Playing Cards Part Two

Today we continue to look at the deck of Superman Playing Cards that I recently picked up at the local Dollar Tree. The Three of Clubs playing card features Superman battling Lex Luthor in his battlesuit.

Wonder Woman guest stars with Superman on the Queen of Clubs playing card:

Aquaman guest stars on the Four of Diamonds playing card while Batman appears on the Five of Diamonds. The Trinity (Wonder Woman, Superman and Batman) appears on the Seven of Diamonds playing card. Green Lantern (Jessica Cruz) and Wonder Woman guest star on the Nine of Diamonds playing card.

Superman battles Wonder Woman on the Queen of Diamonds playing card.

Sad news for Legendary Comic Creator Peter David Dies at 68. He wrote for comic books, novels, television, films, and video games. His best known comic works include Aquaman for DC Comics in the 1990s and The Incredible Hulk for Marvel Comics starting in 2005.

DC Super Friends: Triple Threat Children's Book

The last children's book that I picked up at the local Dollar Tree on Monday was DC Super Friends: Triple Threat. The story was written by Steve Korte with illustrations by Erik Doescher, Mike DeCarlo and David Tanguay. The cover features Batman, Robin, Flash and Cyborg. The Super Friends go up against Joker, Riddler and Penguin before Aquaman shows up at the end. The story and artwork are pretty fun but I'm a little miffed that Aquaman is not also on the cover.

DC Funko Kinder Joy Aquaman Fidget Toy

I opened the last four DC Funko Kinder Joy eggs that I had. I ended up with another DC Funko Kinder Joy Catwoman fidget toy (yes, I called it a push pop in an earlier post because I didn't know what they were called at the time), another Wonder Woman cable hugger and another Batgirl miniature figure. I also ended up with this Aquaman fidget toy that can also be used a zipper tag. The sticker features a full figure King of Atlantis holding his trident in his right hand. The middle of the starfish to his left has the hollow half ball that can be pushed. Yes, I would rather have an actual Aquaman miniature figure than this fidget toy. I will probably get a few more DC Funko Kinder Joy eggs since I only have fourteen of the twenty-four toys in this set.

Countdown to Halloween 2024 Day 15: DC vs. Vampires: World War V #3

The cover of DC vs. Vampires: World War V #3 features Damian Wayne as vampire Robin fighting vampire Captain Marvel with the help of Batman, who is supposed to be dead. The issue opens up with vampire Scott and Barda then shifts to vampire Wonder Woman fighting Green Lantern Alfred. We then see vampires Aquaman and Gorilla Grodd having their discussion interrupted by a mysterious woman. The scene shifts again to Green Arrow and his merry band consisting of Zealot, Killer Croc, Wildcat and Black Canary capturing starving vampires and trying to question them. The scene shifts to Ghost-Maker reporting in as he tries to find Mister Miracle. Then we shift back to Green Arrow and friends as the questioning goes south.

Finally, we get to Robin and his army of vampires attacking a semi-truck. They get a big surprise as vampires Wonder Girl, Captain Marvel and Raven fly out of the truck's trailer and attack. They are joined by vampire Batwoman, who sacrifices herself. There is an interlude with Black Canary talking with John Constantine. We then switch back to an injured Damian as he is joined by Batman, who unmasks and reveals who he really is. Unfortunately, we have to wait until next issue to find out who is wearing the Batsuit this time. Yeah, there is a lot going on in this issue and it's pretty fast paced.

The backup story features Bat-Mite as Geo-Force's new sidekick. That doesn't last long and he searches for a new superhero to annoy. He ends up being Afred-Mite.

Imaginext DC Super Friends Series 1 Wrapper and Insert

I picked up three Imaginext DC Super Friends Series 1 mystery bags on Tuesday at the local Walmart's. Each package was $4.72, and they only had less than a dozen left. I didn't even see these before so I'm not exactly sure when they were stocked but the insert has a 2023 copyright date. Each action figure comes with an accessory.

The wrapper shows Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman in the lower left-hand corner. I'm only showing the front of the wrapper because the back is too shiny for my scanner to pick up the small print.

The outer side of the insert also shows Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman along with a gorilla with a battle axe, a female Troll and dinosaurs.

The inner side of the insert is the checklist for all nine action figures in the Imaginext DC Super Friends Series 1 set. The set includes Swamp Thing, Bane, Man-Bat, Batman, Martian Manhunter, Superboy Prime, Bizarro, Aquaman and Blue Beetle. Swamp Thing and Bane as glow in the dark features. Notice that there is a Batman action figure but no Superman and Wonder Woman figures.

DC Comics Ooshies Pop and Top Aquaman Pencil Topper

I'm surprised that this DC Comics Ooshies Pop and Top Aquaman pencil topper is not classified as a hologram. His torso and arms are green translucent that looks really cool when you shine a light underneath him. This Aquaman is the bearded version, but I would take any version just to have a King of Atlantis figurine.

Women Wednesday: Mera on Titans: Beast World Tour: Atlantis #1 Cover

Mera is on the cover of Titans: Beast World Tour: Atlantis #1 that hits the newsstands this week from DC Comics. Aquaman appears is featured in the first story along with Mera and Garth aka Aqualad aka Tempest. To be honest, I'm not sure exactly what Garth is going by now. Jackson Hyde aka the new Aqualad, makes an appearance towards the end. There is also a second story featuring Vixen and Manta. The third story features Mera and Jackson Hyde aka Aqualad 2.

DC Super Friends Notebooks

My sister actually picked up three DC Super Friends Notebooks at the local Dillons a few weeks ago because they were on sale. The one featuring Batman and his rogue gallery was sixteen cents while the other two were twelve cents each. Now that is what I call one hell of a price reduction.

DC Super Friends Jumbo and Coloring Book

I was clearing out my picture file on my computer when I realized that I have never posted about the DC Super Friends Jumbo and Coloring Book that I picked up some time ago. I can't remember if I bought it at the local Dollar General or the local Dollar Tree. I also can't remember if I got it last year or the year before. Sucks getting old but the coloring book are full of cute kid versions of my favorite superheroes from DC Comics. The cover features Supergirl, Superman, Batman, Batman and Flash. Aquaman, Wonder Woman and a few other super friends are also featured inside. The back cover is a match game that you can cut out and play.

Hershey's DC Heroes 12 Pack and Mini Bar Wrappers 2022

I actually found a box of the Hershey's DC Heroes 12 packs with mini bars at the local Walmart's last month. The box had only the wrappers featuring Batman (Jace Fox) and Wonder Girl (Yara Flor). I grabbed two of each and they are now all gone now at the store (they are back to the regular boring wrappers). I know I'm missing the Superman (Jonathan Kent) wrapper but I'm not sure if they made any with Batman (Bruce Wayne), Superman (Clark Kent) and Wonder Woman (Diana Prince). I'm only showing the right half of the large 12 pack wrappers because they are too long to scan.

I only collected eight of the ten mini bar wrappers. These were extrememely hard to open without ripping them even while using scissors to cut one end off. They also wrinkled bad and the chocolate melted faster than I could eat them out of the package (no, I didn't eat all forty-eight mini bars are once). Anyway, the mini bar wrappers that I did get include Aquaman (Arthur Curry), Aquaman (Jackson Hyde), Batman (Bruce Wayne), Batman (Jace Fox), Green Lantern (Jo Mullein), Superman (Clark Kent), Wonder Woman (Diana Prince) and Wonder Girl (Yara Flor). I'm missing Green Lantern (John Stewart) and Superman.(Jonathan Kent).

I'm really reconsidering collecting these wrappers. Finding them is a chore and eating them is not as fun now that I'm getting older. You can check out last year's Hershey's DC Heroes 12 Pack and Mini Bar Wrappers here

Justice League: Road To Dark Crisis #1

Justice League: Road To Dark Crisis #1 came out from DC Comics last Wednesday. The cover features shattered glass with shards showing Pariah, Darkseid, Flash, Hal Jordan aka Green Lantern, Jackson Hyde as Aquaman, Jonathan Kent aka Superman and Nightwing. The issue actually has multiple stories that deal with the aftermath of the death of the Justice League (all but one died anyway). The first story is about Nightwing and Jonathan Kent, who I still have a hard time accepting as Superman. The second story features Flash (Wally West) and Kid Flash (Wallace "Ace" West) that takes down Giganta and then tries to see who can stop the most crime. The next story features Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) following a space creature to Atlantis where he meets and teams up with Aqualad now known as Aquaman (Jackson Hyde). The story featuring Pariah has him being haunted by the memories of his dead wife, daughter and son before committing himself to building a machine to defeat the Great Darkness. Finally, Batgirl (Stephanie Brown) tries to stop Nocturna but ends up talking with her (Firefly shows up afterwards to offer the vampire a spot on the new Secret Society). The stories are not bad but not great either and they mostly feel like filler. I'm a little miffed that Kid Flash, Batgirl and Nocturna were not on the cover especially since Darkseid is not actually seen in any of the stories within the issue.

Aquaman Annual #2 (2014)

The first comic book in the Ollie's grab bag was a copy of Aquaman Annual #2 (2014). Arthur teams up with Wonder Woman to defeat some giant monsters. In the bonus story, Mera teams up with Wonder Woman to fight even more giant monsters. Yeah, this felt more like a Wonder Woman annual.

Ollie's Comic Book Grab Bag

On my first visit to Ollie's last month, I discovered a bunch of comic book grab bags. I couldn't resist picking up a ten pack for $6.99 that supposedly has a retail value of $35. The front of the bag has the following text:

"A variety mix of 10 classic comic books!"

"Featuring Marvel, DC, Archie, Mirage, etc."

"Supreme Marketing 126 Shove St Box 9 Fall River, MA 02724"

The picture below shows the back of one of the comics that features an ad for warnerarchive.com (the site redirects to warnerbros.com now) that shows Batman now on blu-ray, Batman: The Brave and the Bold the complete first season now on blue-ray (Aquaman shown), Legends of the Superheroes tv special from 1979 (I still need to get that one) and Batman: The Brave and the Bold the complete second season coming soon (Batman is shown with Green Arrow and Blue Beetle). The comic didn't actually come that way in the bag but I didn't want to show the cover just yet. I will be posting the comic covers over the next ten days.

There is nothing on the back of the bag. I don't know when I'll be back at Ollie's again but I will pick up at least another comic book grab bag if they still have them.

Countdown to Halloween 2021 Day 7: Are You Afraid of Darkseid?

Are You Afraid of Darkseid? #1 is out now from DC Comics just in time for Halloween. The cover features Darkseid behind Robin as he is telling scary stories to the rest of the Teen Titans (Kid Flash, Crush, Aqualad and Red Arrow but Roundhouse is now where to be seen). This is their annual one-shot Halloween special but die-hard horror fans will be a bit disappointed as the stories found within are mostly for fun. The issue starts with "Are You Afraid of Darkseid?" as the Teen Titans camping and telling scary stories around the campfire. Red Arrow is first up with "Bloody Mary" that puts a New Gods spin on the urban legend that features Harley Quinn and Darkseid. Robin is up next with "Backseat Driver" that features Batman chasing Mad Hatter, who is riding a bicycle. Crush's scary story is "Escape the Dark Fortress" featuring John Stewart as Green Lantern with brief appearances by Hal Jordan, Guy Gardner and Katma Tui. Kid Flash takes his turn with "The Endless Staircase" featuring the Phantom Stranger. Aqualad's scary story is titled "The Ogopogo", which features him and Aquaman. Roundhouse doesn't want to tell a scary story so Red Arrow tells her second story, which is "Black Eyed Kids" featuring Vixen and Wonder Woman. Roundhouse changes his mind and decides to tell "The Celler" that finds Superman and Lois Lane looking for missing twins in Kansas (he gets his life force drained by a horrorifying female creature). The final page with the Teen Titans around the campfire is perhaps the scariest part of the whole issue.

Correction: Miniature Justice League Figurines

There are actually two miniature Justice League Figurines that Mattel put out and that I picked up at the local Dollar Tree. The 2018 line includes Aquaman, Batman, Flash, Superman and Wonder Woman. The 2019 line includes two different versions of Batman (the classic light blue and gray costume and the black costume with dark gray cape), Flash, Superman and Wonder Woman. The Flash, Superman and Wonder Woman figurines are the same from both years. The 2018 Justice League logo is red while the 2019 logo is blue. I didn't notice the different logos until I was hanging them up on my wall. I'm not sure if there is or will be a 2020 line of the miniature Justice League figurines for I couldn't find any information about them online.

Hershey's DC Super Hero Bar 5 Pack Snack Size Trinity

The local Dollar General had a few of the Hershey's DC Super Hero Bar 5 Pack Snack Size left a few weeks ago. They were not in the candy aisle but on a shelf displaying makings of s'mores. I almost walked right pass them. I was fortunate to grab the Trinity: Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman.

The Batman pack had one Aquaman wrapper, two Batman wrappers, one Superman wrapper and one Wonder Woman wrapper. The Superman pack had one Aquaman wrapper, one Batman wrapper, one Cyborg wrapper, one Flash wrapper and one Superman wrapper. The Wonder Woman pack had one Aquaman wrapper, one Batman wrapper, two Cyborg wrappers and one Superman wrapper. No Green Lantern wrappers were found in any of the packs.

The local Walmart's were totally out of the Hershey's DC Super Hero Bar 12 Packs as of last Sunday. I doubt that they will get any more in since this is limited edition. I have yet to find any snack size bags or the numbered regular size bars with the seven individual DC super heroes.
