Super Sunday: DC's Kal-El-Fornia Love Special

DC released DC's Kal-El-Fornia Love one shot summer special last week. The cover features Superman, Lois Lane, Superboy, Supergirl, Power Girl and other members of the Super Family.

DC vs. Vampires: World War V #8

I can't believe that Countdown to Halloween 2024 Day 15: DC vs. Vampires: World War V #3 was my last post about the horror series. DC vs. Vampires: World War V #8 is now out and the cover features Ra's al Ghul wearing Batman's costume. John Constantine joins several magic users trapped in the House of Mystery. Deadman possesses a baby and speaks to Ra's al Ghul aka BatGhul and Green Lantern Alfred Pennyworth.

This issue also features part one of "Wildcat: Going the Distance" as a backup story that finds Wildcat looking for his son, Tommy. This almost makes up for what happens to him in the current JSA issue.

Countdown to Halloween 2024 Day 19: Batman: Full Moon #1

Batman: Full Moon #1 (December, 2024) came out last Wednesday just in time for Halloween. Batman battles a werewolf in Gotham City. Zatanna, John Constantine and Man-Bat also appears in this issue. Kirk Langstrom aka Man-Bat tells Batman about the origins of Christian Talbot, a British soldier that was bitten by a werewolf while on a classified mission in Romania. This issue ends with the werewolf battling Batman and Man-Bat.

Women Wednesday: Wonder Woman #11 Cover

Wonder Woman #11 is out today from DC Comics and is an Absolute Power tie-in. The issue starts with Wonder Woman playing Go Fish with Billy Batson, Mary Batson, Bobo the Detective Chimp, John Constantine, Jim Corrigan and Madam Xanadu. When an Amazo robot shows up, Billy turns into the Captain (yes, he's still Captain Marvel to me), Mary turns in Mary Marvel and Jim turns into the Spectre. The back up feature is part 8 of "World's Finest" that finds the Super Sons, Damian Wayne aka Robin and Jon Kent aka Superboy, going to see a Black Canary concert with Lizzie Prince aka Wonder Girl. No, I haven't been following this feature, but I might have to now.

Women Wednesday: Birds of Prey 2023 #1-3 Covers

I didn't pay much attention to the new Birds of Prey #1 that came out in September from DC Comics. Maybe it was because the new team consists of Black Canary, Batgirl (the Cassandra Cain version), Harley Quinn, Big Barda and Zealot (you remember her from WildC.A.T.S. right?). Dinah gathers the women together in order to find her sister, Sin. John Constantine shows up in Birds of Prey #2 to help out Dinah and King Shark shows up towards the end. What really drew me into the series is the cover of #3 because it has that very worn and used look to it plus the Birds look to be facing Wonder Woman. She does appear within the issue along with Green Arrow, who was last seen at the beginning of the first issue.

Birds of Prey #3 came out today and I realized that I had not posted about the Birds of Prey since 2014.

Women Wednesday: Knight Terrors: Wonder Woman #1 Cover

This week's post for Women Wednesday is the cover of Knight Terrors: Wonder Woman #1. She is joined by Bobo the Detective Chimp, John Constantine and Dr. Fate (the Khalid Nassour version). The story continues from Knight Terrors: First Blood #1 so you should read that issue first. There is also a backup feature titled "Nubia and the Well of Horrors (Part One)".

Women Wednesday: Spirit World #1 Cover

Meet Xanthe Zhou aka the Envoy, a spirit stuck in Gotham City that stars in Spirit World #1. This new series is now out from DC Comics and stems out of Lazarus Planet: Dark Fate. John Constantine guest stars as he tries to help them get Cassandra Cain aka Batgirl back from the Spirit World. Note: Xanthe Zhou is described as a non-binary Chinese sorcerer and vampire slayer. To me, they look more female than male so I'm making her this week's spotlight for my Women Wednesday post. I highly recommend picking this up especially if you enjoy some Chinese mythology with your horror.

Countdown to Halloween 2020 Day 20: Brightest Day Aftermath: The Search For Swamp Thing

Brightest Day Aftermath: The Search For Swamp Thing was a three issue mini series from DC Comics that ran from June to August in 2011. John Constantine returns to the DC Universe to convince Superman and Batman that the newly resurrected Alec Holland must die so that his soul can merge with the Green again and become Swamp Thing once more. Zatanna, Madame Xanadu and Deadman also appear to help the Hellblazer. Here are all six covers for the mini series:

Sexy Sunday: DC Comics Bombshells #18

The cover of DC Comics Bombshells #18 is the same cover as #16 featuring Batwoman and Catwoman while page one features Stargirl riding a bomb with the credits. This issue is part 9 of 9 so that means it's the last issue. Bare with me because there is a lot to follow in this one issue.

DC Comics Bombshells #18 starts with Mera talking with Stargirl and Supergirl on a battleship while Commander Waller arrives along with Big Barda and Dr. Hoshi aka Dr. Light. Hoshi gives the Soviet superheroines new uniforms that they object to because they do not want to be poster girls. Stargirl uses her cosmic staff to change their uniforms from red to blue. The sisters fly off probably to save their father.

Next, we catch up with Kate Kane aka the Batwoman riding in a white car with Catwoman and Lex Luthor in Berlin when they are hit by a black vehicle. Brother Night steps out demanding that they hand over Kate. She grabs her baseball bat and is ready for action.
Page 10 of DC Comics Bombshells #18 featuring Batwoman
The issue then switches to a prison camp in Greece where Wonder Woman is being held captive. Steve Trevor is trying to talk her into apologizing to General Lane. She refuses and breaks the bars intent on getting them both out of there.
Page 12 from DC Comics Bombshells #18 featuring Wonder Woman
In France, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy are killing Nazi zombies while riding in a truck. Harley is singing about their exploits in a bizarre Christmas song.
Page 14 from DC Comics Bombshells #18 featuring Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy
The final section features Zatanna in Berlin reminiscing with Constantine, who is still a rabbit. He changes the subject to how she is on the wrong side. Zatanna explains how the Joker's Daughter saved her during the first purge since she had a Jewish father and a Romani mother. Constantine tells her that she is more powerful than she realizes and that the Joker's Daughter is using her as a battery. He tells her that Amanda Waller sent him there to find something that may be hiding in the cabaret. She tells him how the rooms moves and she has the feeling that something is watching her. He promises her that he will get her out somehow and together they can change the tide.

I won't give away the final page except to say that the Joker's Daughter makes a creepy appearance. This issue feels more like they are leading each into their own series, which I hope happens. I can't wait to read more adventures of these women.

Sexy Sunday: DC Comics Bombshells #7

The cover of DC Comics Bombshells #7 featuring Zatanna and Constantine in his smoking rabbit form:
Cover of DC Comics Bombshells #7 featuring Zatanna and Constantine
The issue is very dark with three German soldiers being sacrificed. The Joker's Daughter tries to summon up the Prince that she serves with a song but fails. She forces Zatanna to sing and she succeeds in summoning Tenebrus the Binder that serves the King Beneath the Black. The story has a Lovecraft feel to it so I highly recomm

end it.

Sexy Sunday: DC Comics Bombshells #6

DC Comics Bombshells #6 has to be the best issue yet for several reasons. The second page featuring the Joker's Daughter should have been the cover instead of the Wonder Woman and Mera cover that has been the cover since #4. Notice that her teeth are pearly white while they are disgustingly nasty in the story itself:
Page 2 from DC Comics Bombshells #6 featuring the Joker's Daughter
A group of German soldiers go to a nightclub in 1940 Berlin, Germany where they are greeted by the Joker's Daughter singing.
Page 5 from DC Comics Bombshells #6 featuring the Joker's Daughter
After they are seated, all the light bulbs pop and Zatanna appears on stage. She sings the song, Ich Halte Dich (I Hold You).
Page 9 from DC Comics Bombshells #6 featuring Zatanna
After taking a puff from one of the German soldier's cigarette that has an English taste, she calls him out as John Constantine.
Page 14 from DC Comics Bombshells #6 featuring Zatanna and John Constantine
Zatanna and Constantine battle with magic before she turns him into a rabbit. The Joker's Daughter starts laughing and saves them from the rest of the soldiers. However, it's clear that Zatanna has a secret that the Joker's Daughter knows and is holding over her. The latter mentions the Master several times. I have to wonder if the Joker may be the Master and/or Hitler in the Bombshells universe or at least one of the his top generals.

Breaking News: NBC Cancels Constantine

Not really surprised but this sucks just the same:

NBC has confirmed cancellation of Constantine.

A blogger for BuzzFeed posted an article about network renewals and cancellations where she tweeted she fact-checked the information with every network. Constantine has been on the bubble ever since NBC didn't order a full series for the first Season.

Fans of the series quickly took to social networks in an attempt to save the series with the #SaveConstantine hashtag, which regularly trended worldwide.

Showrunner Daniel Cerone has been vocal on Twitter as well. His last tweet as of April 6th read that NBC invited him to pitch Constantine Season 2 in late April, and added Constantine was not dead and to stay hopeful.

Now with, apparently, NBC confirming the cancellation of Constantine with BuzzFeed, it seems all hope for a Season 2 is gone.

There were rumblings that Constantine could be picked up by NBC's sister network, SyFy; however, an exec for SyFy stated the rumor wasn't true.

If Constantine was going to continue, scripts for Season 1 episodes that weren't used, would have been spun into Season 2.

The finale of Constantine saw a big reveal, which explained a lot, but also left fans with more questions than answers and the desire to see more.

Previously, NBC executives offered the reason for the potential cancellation of Constantine was due to live-viewings not getting high enough ratings, though subsequent DVR and online viewings were said to do well.

Warner Bros. will be using Constantine in the Guillermo del Toro Justice League Dark movie, which is separate than the TV show, but Guillermo delo Toro did state he would be open to using Matt Ryan.

Constantine's Short Season

According to NBC Hits Brakes On "Constantine," But Season 2 Still Possible, the tv series will only have thirteen episodes for season one and "remains in contention for a second-season renewal". I urge every one to watch the show if you have not done so yet. If you enjoy horror shows like Grimm and Supernatural, then you will enjoy Constantine.
