Movie Monday: Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 2
I actually picked up the Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 2 DVD in May of this year at the local Dollar Tree. Yes, it brings the Alan Moore graphic novel to animated life and is pretty faithful to it. I actually watched it a few months ago and never got around to posting about it here. Peter Weller is Batman, Ariel Winter is Carrie Kelly and David Selby is James Gordon. It's kind of weird to hear the voices of RoboCop and Quentin Collins from Dark Shadows in an animated movie from DC Comics. I highly recommend it especially if you enjoyed the graphic novel,.

Countdown to Halloween 2017 Day 29: Dark Shadows Werewolf Trading Card
This Alex Stevens as the Werewolf is from the 1993 Dark Shadows set:
TMC had the two Dark Shadows movies yesterday afternoon. I missed the House of Dark Shadows with vampire Barnabas but watched the Night of Dark Shadows with the ghost Angelique. I've seen both of them countless times and still have the on VHS (note to self: get them on DVD one of these days). A third Dark Shadows movie was planned but never made and I believed it would have had a werewolf in it. I have never seen an episode of the series with the werewolf in it. Of course, I've seen the reboot movie with Johnny Depp and thought it was okay but not great. I have watched a few episodes from the Dark Shadows binge on the Decades channel. Most of them, I have seen a few times from when the series was on SyFy channel.

This Jonathan Frid as the vampire Barnabas Collins with cane trading card is #1 from the Dark Shadows 1993 set:
Unfortunately, I don't have the complete set and only have a handful of cards. Shame that the backs didn't have a little bit more information on them.

Countdown To Halloween Day 4: My Halloween Loot Crate
Loot Crate is a great subscription box filled with exciting merchandise for geeks. There is usually a theme like Futuristic, Magic and Anti-Hero. I thought I would write a little about what I would like to see in my Halloween Loot Crate.
For starters, I would like to see something featuring Elvira in a major way. This may be a Funko Pop, an action figure, a t-shirt or a comic book. The next character I would like to see featured in a major way would be Vampirella. Other characters that I would like to see featured include Lady Death, Alice Cooper and Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid's version not Ben Cross or Johnny Depp). Any issue of the classic Famous Monsters of past or present would be cool too.
What would you put together if you were able to create your own Loot Crate theme? You can check out their past and current subscription crate selection if you’re in need of additional ideas.

Dark Shadows #23
I was very disappointed with Dark Shadows #23 from Dynamite. This is the final issue of the series and felt rushed in a bad way. Mostly it centers around Emma, David Collins' friend that was turned into a vampire earlier in the series. She is seen talking to a shrink in a mental hospital before narrating flashbacks telling what happened to her after she escaped the possessed Barnabas Collins and his evil vampire crew. Emma tried to head back to David but was intercepted by Quentin Collins and his vampire hunter crew. Thanks to Blair's magic, Emma was shown several alternate futures with all of them having her turning David into a vampire. They buried her and she dreams of happier times. However, her story was far from done and she was unearthed by Barnabas and Jackie twenty years later. She was made human by the magical necklace that caused all the problems in the first place before she noticed a grown up David sitting in the car. Of course, the shrink doesn't believe all this and starts to take the magical necklace off. That's it and there is no mention of how the good Barnabas regained possession of his body. I would have liked at least one of two more issues before this one. I still like the cover art by Francesco Francavilla and the interior artwork by Nacho Tenorio.

Dark Shadows/Vampirella #5
Dynamite's Dark Shadows/Vampirella (November 2012) wraps up the vampires fight against Countess Bathory and her minion, Jack the Ripper:
One of the best scenes is on page four when Barnabas Collins and Vampirella crash through the skylight with both of their eyes glowing red and ready to fight:
I found the team up between werewolf Quentin Collins and werepanther Pantha to be much more exciting than the team up between the vampires. I hope there is a sequel featuring them as leads instead of supporting characters:

Barnabas Collins' Confession In Dark Shadows #9
Halloween may be over but Dynamite's Dark Shadows is still going strong. Issue #9 has a another cool cover by Francesco Francavilla:
My favorite part is when Quentin Collins asks Barnabas Collins how many times he has used his mind-controlling trick. The vampire actually confesses that he has lost count.

Countdown To Halloween 2012 Day 12: Dark Shadows #8
Dynamite's Dark Shadows #8 has creepy cover by Francesco Francavilla:
Nacho Tenorio did the interior illustrations while Carlos Lopez did the coloring. My favorite scene is page twelve when Quentin Collins, a werewolf, wakes up Barnabas Collins, a vampire, in the daytime:

Barnabas Collins Meets Vampirella In August
Dynamic Entertainment will be releasing Dark Shadows/Vampirella #1 in August, 2012 written by Marc Andreyko. Patrick Berkenkotter is doing the interior art while the cover will be done by Fabiano Neves.
The summery according to Comics Continuum's Dynamite Entertainment For August is as follows: Two classic vampires meet for the first time! When the disappearance of a family friend brings Barnabas Collins to New York, he is ill-prepared for the seedy underworld of clubs that awaits him! And Vampirella's quest to find the "big apple butcher" sends her on a collision course with the vampire of Collinsport! Will Vampirella and Barnabas uncover the shocking identity of this madman before they kill one another?

Scary Saturday: Barnabas Collins On Famous Monsters Cover
Famous Monsters of Filmland #281 (May/June 2012) has Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins on the cover.
This is not the first time that the vampire from Dark Shadows has graced the cover of the horror zine. Jonathan Frid as Barnabas Collins appeared on #52 (October 1968):
And again on #59 (November 1969):
I have neither in my collection since they were both several years before I started buying Famous Monsters of Filmland as a kid.
