Death in the Family and Goodnight Christopher Lee

You may have noticed a lack of posts this week. The reason is because my Uncle Kenny died last Thursday night at the age of 75 after fighting COPD for the past few years. His funeral was yesterday afternoon and I still can't believe that he's gone. He never married or had any kids but he did serve two years in the United States Army.

The first news that I read this afternoon after getting online was the death of Sir Christopher Lee at 93. Kind of bummer to see that the legendary actor that has played in so many horror movies have passed on.

Big Changes At DC Comics This June Includes New Look and Series For Starfire

Very interesting news at DC Reveals Major Changes, New Direction For Comic Book Line for the new 52 brand will no longer be used starting in June. Sure, the rebooted DC Universe will stay but stories will play a bigger part. There will be twenty-four new first issues joining twenty-five existing titles. Included in the new titles will be Black Canary, Harley Quinn/Power Girl and Starfire, who gets a new look:

There will be more humor titles including Bizarro, Bat-Mite and Prez. Fans of grittier comics will still find plenty to read including a revamped John Constantine series titled Constantine: The Hellblazer (in related news his tv series has yet to be renewed) plus Section Eight, which will have characters from the Hitman series. Naturally, a new Justice League of America series will be launched. Earth 2 is one of several titles getting revamped and the new series will be Earth 2: Society (I hope this means that the Justice Society is returning in one form or another).

Goodbye KAKE, ABC and MeTV Kansas

Cox Communications dropped KAKE, our local ABC affiliate and MeTV Kansas. I'm glad that I got to watch the first hour of Agent Carter last night (I had to turn it over to catch Little Women: L.A.). I thought it was okay but not great. Unfortunately, without KAKE, I will be missing out on my favorite ABC shows like Once Upon A Time, Last Man Standing and The Goldbergs. There will be no more Wonder Woman reruns without MeTV Kansas and that makes me really sad.

Breaking News: Brandon Routh Cast as the Atom on Arrow

Who needs a big screen Justice League movie when most of my favorites are coming to the small screen. The Flash is already getting his own tv show this fall while Ray Palmer aka the Atom will be appearing on season three of Arrow. Check out the exciting Comic Book Resources news at Bradon Routh Cast as The Atom on "Arrow":

Goodnight Mickey Rooney

Legendary actor, Mickey Rooney, died yesterday at the age of 93. I mostly remember watching him in movies as Andy Hardy during the weekends when I was growing up. He was also the voice of Santa Claus in four Christmas TV animated/stop action specials. Here is Elvira with Mickey Rooney:

RIP ComicsAlliance

In case you missed the news, AOL pulls plug on ComicsAlliance. The site stopped updating on April 29, 2013 and will be missed for it was one of few that I visited every day for my comic news.

Goodnight Comic Buyer's Guide

Out of all the comic news this week, nothing hit me more than Krause Cancels 'Comic Buyer's Guide' After 42 Years. I had a subscription when the CBG was still a newspaper back in the late 1980s and early 1990s. I had them saved due to all the great articles, previews, reviews and even the ads. Unfortunately, I had to get rid of them all due to my limited space about ten years ago.

Say Goodbye To Bazooka Joe Comic Strips

For they will be replaced by puzzles and brain teasers according to Bazooka Joe Character Chewed Up And Spit Out By Topps, Inc., After 59 Years. It has been a while since I last had any Bazooka Joe for it has been hard to find in the local stores. I always enjoyed the comic strips but never enjoyed the hard as a rock gum.

Twinkies Ad Featuring Batman And The Mummy

With the news of Hostess Brands closing for good, this seems like a good time to take a look at an ad for Twinkies featuring Batman and the Mummy from The Joker #1 (May 1975):

Yes, I ate my fair share of Twinkies while growing up and they will be missed.
