Women Wednesday: Vampirella: Armageddon #1 Cover Gallery

Vampirella: Armageddon #1 (2025) hits the newsstands today. Here is the official summery: "Return to the future world of Vampirella and Sepulcher City in Vampirella: Armageddon, from Vampirella writer Tom Sniegoski and artist Kewber Baal! Picking up from where our last series (Vampirella Strikes!) left off, Vampirella faces internal and external forces of chaos as a new threat arrives to stare her down! A threat… not of this mortal plane!"

Of course, there are several variant covers to collect. One of my favorite covers is the Universal Monsters cover by Mark Spears since it has Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, Wolfman, the Mummy and the Creature of the Black Lagoon.

Countdown to Halloween 2024 Day 29: Universal Monsters: Frankenstein #1-3

Universal Monsters: Frankenstein #1 from Image Comics and Skybound Entertainment was released in August while #2 hit the newsstands in September and #3 came out this month. The covers and interior artwork of all three are great with what I want to call dayglo coloration. The series is loosely based on the 1931 movie starring Boris Karloff as the monster.

Countdown to Halloween 2024 Day 25: Headless Horseman Annual 2024

The Headless Horseman Annual 2024 was released earlier this week from Dark Horse Comics. The cover features a headless woman and Frankenstein-like monster with a horse's head. There are five horror stories in this issue introduced by the female headless horseman. The first story is "Leech Lake" about three teen girls that usually goes trick or treating every year but two of them decide to go to a party instead. The second story is "Feeder" about a zombie just trying to survive after the zombie apocalypse. "Stingy Jack and the Cursed Lantern" is the third story that tells the origin of Stingy Jack O'Lantern (this is my favorite). The fourth story is "The Spice of Life (and Death)" that finds a couple not getting along with their new neighbors (this one is my second favorite). "Little Rabbit" is the fifth story about a girl escaping and running away.

Countdown to Halloween 2023 Day 4: Elvira in Monsterland #2, 4 and 5 Cover Galleries

I forgot to post the cover galleries for Elvira in Monsterland #2 and #4 when the issues originally came out. The fifth issue came out last week so I thought I would post all three cover galleries today for this week's Women Wednesday post. In issue two, she riffs on Frankenstein and The Bride of Frankenstein movies.

In Elvira in Monsterland #4, she riffs on the kaiju movie Destroy All Monsters, which features Godzilla.

Issue five wraps up the mini-series with Elvira battles Vlad the Impaler and his army of monsters but she gets help from a super hero group that spoofs The Avengers movie.

Countdown to Halloween 2022 Day 25: Mergest Kingdom's Halloween Adventure

Mergest Kingdom started their annual Halloween Adventure on Monday, October 24th. I have played it a few times on Facebook but I don't think I'm going to be able to finish it in nine days. I have yet to finish any of the special events at Mergest Kingdom. Frankenstein's Monster is the first helper that you can get in order to collect lanterns (yes, they spelled it wrong):

You can even get Count Dracula to help out:

Other helpers include a witch (I have gotten her), a spooky skelton and a spooky scarecrow. There are also ghosts that will drop items when you click on them.

Countdown to Halloween 2021 Day 29: WWE SuperCard Frankenstein Cards

I've been playing WWE SuperCard game a lot this month on Facebook mostly because they have cards with special Halloween themes. Among my favorites are the Frankenstein cards where the wrestlers are made up to look like the monster. I don't know how many are in each set but I only have Big E, Bobby Lashley, Sami Zayn and Seth Rollins so far. The other Halloween sets include Day of the Dead, Deadly Dollhouse, Ghosts and Vampires.

Countdown to Halloween 2020 Day 30: Monster Cereals 2020

You didn't think I would let this year's Countdown to Halloween pass without doing a post on the monster cereals from General Mills did you? The local Walmart's didn't stock the family size until October 18 but I had to take a road trip to see the out of town dentist on October 16. I found the normal size boxes at the Dillons Marketplace and picked up all three. All three has the same monster party scene on the back that also includes other cereal mascots and a certain doughboy from General Mills. Of course, none of the cereal boxes has a toy prize hidden inside.

I finished off Count Chocula cereal and still have a little Franken Berry left. Neither have that strong and sweet chocolate or strawberry taste that I remember from my childhood days in the 1970s. I haven't even opened the Boo Berry box yet.

Here is front and back of the Boo Berry Monster Cereal 2020 box:

Countdown to Halloween 2019 Day 26: The Addams Family and Monster Cereals

This year's monster cereals teams up with characters from The Addams Family animated movie that came out on October 5, 2019 (no, I haven't seen it yet since I can't bring my monster cereal boxes into the local theater). I found the family size boxes at the local Walmart Super Center on October 5th. Instead of a free toy included inside, they offer ten free pumpkin carving stencils to download at Monster Carving.

Here's the front of the Boo Berry box:

Here's the front of the Count Chocula's box:
Front of Count Chocula cereal box 2019 edition
Here's the front of the Franken Berry's box:
The back of each monster cereal box has the same Tricks & Treats puzzle. The text says "How frightfully fun! The Addams Family is trick-or-treating at the Monster's castle. But that's not the only trick you'll find in this scene. Can you find all 8 tricky mistakes? After you find them, look on the side of the box and treat yourself to free downloadable pumpkin carving stencils."

Another year of monster cereals that teases with my childhood memories. This time they offer free pumpkin carving stencils, which I will never use, instead of cheap toys. Glow in the dark figures of Boo Berry, Count Chocula, Boo Berry and the Addams Family would have been so much better and fun.

Countdown to Halloween 2019 Day 14: Gotham City Monsters #1 and #2

Gotham City Monsters is a six issue mini-series from DC Comics that started last month. The cover of #1 features Killer Croc, Frankenstein, Andrew Bennett, Orca and Lady Clay. The story takes place in MonsterTown, a section of Gotham City where monsters dwell. Andrew Bennett battles mad vampire monks before searching for their new king. Killer Croc is bummed because he can't find a "normal" job due to his looks after being released from the Suicide Squad. His friend, Tusk, offers him some opera tickets at the Magus Theatre, which he refuses. Frankenstein basically tracks down a possessed minotaur in a bar before setting him on fire. Grace Balin aka Orca attacks a ship in the harbor with a shipment for Bane, who now rules Gotham City, before retreating to her cave. Sandra Fuller aka Lady Clay flies to her apartment before heading to the Magus theatre. She enters disguised as man in a suit.

In the MonsterTown Station, Frankenstein learns from a talking mandrill that his master is giving an opera and would love for him to attend. A group of mandrills move a giant cauldron filled with bubbling green goop inside the Magus Theatre. Andrew Bennett joins a watchful Frankenstein on the roof of the theatre. They share information about Melmoth, the Monarch of Mars. Frankenstein literally cuts Bennett in half with a giant sword because he had bitten one of the vampire monks tainted with Melmoth's blood.

Inside the Magus Theatre, the mandrills are on stage with the cauldron while music is playing. A magician named the Red Phantom is being held captive in one full-length mirror while a demonic Melmoth is in another. The green goop goes to the enthralled audience including Tusk and Lady Clay like stardust before they start foaming at the mouth. I won't spoil the ending but it's a good one so pick up Gotham City Monsters #1.

The cover of Gotham City Monsters #2 features a demonic Melmoth stepping out of the bat-signal while holding Andrew Bennett. At his feet are the defeated bodies of Frankenstein, Lady Clay and Orca. I won't go into much detail about this issue except to say that there is more to the Red Phantom than him being just a vaudeville magician. Also, Frankenstein enlists the aid of Lady Clay, Orca and Killer Croc. Bennett tries to face a human-looking Melmoth on his own.

I really wasn't expecting the first two issues of Gotham City Monsters to be all that but they are and I can't wait to read the rest of the mini-series. I would like to see this title become a monthly or another mini-series in the future. Also, the Red Phantom needs his own series and become a member of Justice League Dark.

Crafter's Square Halloween Ceramic Painting Sets

I picked up four Crafter's Square Halloween Ceramic Painting Sets at the Dollar Tree that opened just a few months ago. Each of them has a three inch tall unpainted ceramic figurine, three paint set and a paintbrush. Each figurine has a hook in the top of their heads with a loop of string. Unfortunately, the only paint colors are orange, purple and black. I couldn't resist them since they were a dollar each.

Countdown to Halloween 2018 Day 22: Chocolate Frosted Flakes with Spooky Marshmallows

I spent the first half of October eating the Limited Edition Chocolate Frosted Flakes with Spooky Marshmallows. While the cereal box featuring Tony the Tiger dressed up as Count Dracula is pretty cool, the actual cereal was rather tasteless. Even the chocolate milk didn't have much of a taste. The spooky marshmallows was shaped liked bats, Frankenstein's monster heads and ghosts. They had a little bit of taste but not enough to help the cereal.

The back of the cereal box is actually a search and find puzzle featuring a few of the mascots of the Kellogg's cereals:

Countdown to Halloween 2018 Day 12: Hotel Transylvania Candy Sticks

Dollar General put out their Halloween candy back in September and I picked up a bag of Hotel Transylvania Candy Sticks since it was only a dollar. There are plenty of monsters here including vampires, werewolves, a mummy, a blob and a Frankenstein monster (the Bride is shown on the bag but none of the boxes I got had her on them). Here's the front of the bag:

The CW Picks Up Transylvania

Looks like another monster tv series is a go according to Monster series Transylvania officially picked up by The CW. It will feature an American woman in the 1880s teaming up with a Scotland Yard detective to find her father in Transylvania. Expect new origins of Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, the Wolfman and other creatures.

To be honest, I watched the first season on The Vampire Dairies but wasn't all that impressed enough to tune in to the second season. I never watched an episode of The Originals but I do want to see the first episode of Transylvania.

Countdown to Halloween 2015 Day 28: Franken Bride Slots

Franken Bride is a new slots game from House of Fun on Facebook. The main focus is the Bride of Frankenstein and is a sequel to Frankenstein Rising.

Countdown to Halloween 2015 Day 18: Glow in the Dark Horror Puffy Stickers

I remember getting these glow in the dark horror puffy stickers in the mid-1980s out of a local vending machine for a quarter. Unfortunately, I only got seven out of ten since I rarely ever got a full set of anything back then. I finally took them out of my very warped sticker book and put them on homemade trading cards. On the first card is Dracula, the Mummy, Wolfman and Frankenstein:
Glow in the dark horror puffy stickers from the 1980s includes Dracula, the Mummy, Wolfman and Frankenstein
The second card features King Kong, the Skull and I-Oneman:

Unfortunately, these horror puffy stickers have lost their ability to glow in the dark after all these years.

Countdown to Halloween 2014 Day 28: Ultimate Spider-Man vs Dracula Book and Stickers

Ultimate Spider-Man vs Dracula is based on the second season episode of Marvel Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon titled "The Howling Commandos". The book is 8" x 8" and includes twenty pages. Two pages of stickers are also included. I'm only posting a few pages from the book to give you an idea of what's inside. I bought my copy earlier this month on a road trip to the nearest Hastings for $5.99.

As you can tell by the cover, this Dracula has white hair and is not the version from Tomb of Dracula:

Page three starts the story plus features a picture of Spider-Man and Nova (other characters that make appearances include Blade, White Tiger, Power Man and Iron Fist):

The Howling Commandos are supernatural agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and steal the show when they are called upon by Spidey (they include Werewolf By Night, The Living Mummy and The Monster of Frankenstein):

Man-Thing also makes an appearance:

The book also comes with two pages of stickers. The first page is found in the front of the book. There are stickers of Spider-Man, Dracula, Man-Thing, The Living Mummy, The Monster of Frankenstein, bats and even spider-pumpkins:

The second page of stickers include Spider-Man, Dracula, the Howling Commandos, Man-Thing, Werewolf By Night, The Living Mummy, The Monster of Frankenstein, more bats and even more spider-pumpkins:

This is a fun little book to read and is appropriate for younger readers. Now I just have to watch the cartoon episode that it is based upon.
