Hulk Movie Books

I was shopping for my sister's birthday present yesterday when I picked up The Incredible Hulk movie adaptation by Peter David. I still have the first movie book on my to read pile. Here are a few blurry pictures of them:

I found the Hulk action figure a few years ago at a local thrift store but I bought both of the books when they first came out.

I picked up The Jungle Book 2 DVD for my sister's birthday present.

Justice League Plus Spider-Man

Here are my ten inch Batman, Superman, Martian Manhunter and Green Latern action figures from Justice League line plus a slighter larger Spider-Man (they are standing on and surrounding my stack of cassette cases next to my stereo). All were found at the local thrift stores in the past few years. I'm hoping to find the large Aquaman, Atom, Green Arrow and Wonder Woman action figures one of these days.

In the upper left-hand corner, you can see part of my Batman Superman two pack that I actually found at the local Wal-Mart's a few years ago. I might get around to taking a picture and posting it here soon.

Movie Candy Wrappers

Apologies in advance for having pictures of movie candy wrappers instead of actual scans. My scanner seems to be having hardware problems. If I ever get a big chunk of money again, a new scanner is at the top of my need to get list.

The first movie candy wrapper is the Snickers Adventure Bar to promote the Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull movie:

The candy wrapper promises a new flavor kick and the taste is either cinnamon or nutmeg. The cool factor is not the candy bar but the Indiana Jones Arti-Facts found on the back of the wrappers. There are eight different wrappers with each having a different Arti-Fact. I got one, seven and eight.

Next up are candy wrappers promoting The Dark Knight movie. Each candy wrapper has a trivia question on the back.

My favorites was the Batman Kit Kat since the crisp wafers covered in milk chocolate are my favorites. The candy wrapper was the easiest to open. The Kit Kat itself had two bars combine into one thick bar so the large bat-symbol could fit on it.

Next is the candy wrapper for the Batman Reese's Pieces promoting The Dark Knight movie. The color of the hard candy shells were blue and dark gray. As you can tell by the picture, the candy wrapper was not the easiest to open. The trivia question on the back was the hardest to read.

Finally, there is the Batman Reese's PB Bat. The bat-shaped bar has a peanut butter interior and a milk chocolate exterior. It was pretty tasty but seemed a little bit on the small size.

I ate all the candy before I could take a picture of them. Each of them were found at the local Dollar General for fifty cents each. I didn't eat them in all one setting either since I'm supposed to be watching my diet. However, I couldn't pass up on getting these.

Blog Spotlight: Ratchet's Hulk Collection

Ratchet's Hulk Collection is a blog totally devoted to the green goliath. He posts about his growing comic book collection, action figures and other miscellaneous items. If you enjoy any incarnation of the character from Marvel Comics, then you need to check out his blog. Many of his recent posts have been about items based on The Incredible Hulk movie that is set to be released June 13, 2008.

I make sure that I visit Ratchet's Hulk Collection at least once a day since you never know what exactly he is going to post next. I will be adding a link to my favorite blogs in the sidebar.

Ten Inch Batman

I found this ten inch Batman from the Justice League series at a local thrift store for a dollar eariler. I now have Superman, Martian Manhunter and Green Lantern.

Blog Spotlight: Jon's Random Acts of Geekness

Where do I start by saying how cool Jon's Random Acts of Geekness is? I have been wanting to write a piece about his blog since I first discovered it a few months ago. I have just been too busy drooling over the pictures of cool stuff that he posts.

Jon's Random Acts of Geekness has everything from cartoons and comics to monsters and superheroes. Many of his posts brings back fond memories of stuff that I used to have as a kid in the 1970s. I love his theme days that include Sunday Funnies, Monster Mondays and Give-A-Show Fridays.

If you are a big geek like me, then you need to check out Jon's Random Acts of Geekness. You never know what might pop up next on his blog.

Aiding Gene Colan

Clifford Meth has posted about an auction to help Gene Colan at his blog, Everyone's Wrong and I'm Right. The legendary comic book artist has a failing liver. He worked for Timely Comics and Atlas Comics in the Golden Age before working for DC Comics and Marvel Comics in the Silver Age. Gene Colan also did work for Archie and Dark Horse.

The American Knight

I needed a break from writing stories today and played with two online character makers. I ended up making two versions of the American Knight:

The first American Knight made with Create Your Own Superhero found at MarvelKids.com (I can imagine this superhero being active in the 1970s):


The second American Knight was made with HeroMachine 2.5 at Ugo.com (I can see this superhero being active today):


The immediate differences between the two is the color palette and the detailed items. The color of the Marvel Kids superhero maker is more subdued and what you would find on the printed page. The color found at HeroMachine is much vibrant but they give you the option of playing with two colors per items (see the helmet, breastplate, the leggings and the sword for the effects of having two different colors for one item). The only armor that Marvel Kids had were for Iron Man while HeroMachine had a lot to choose from and they had more details. HeroMachine also had more miscellaneous items such as the American flag and the sheath for the sword.

Both are fun to play around with but my favorite has to be HeroMachine because of the wide variety of color and the amount of detailed items available.

Iron Man P2 Trading Card

The Iron Man P2 trading card was found in Non-Sport Update v.19, #2 (April/May). Since this is the opening weekend of the Marvel Comics movie, I thought I would post the front and back of the trading card.



I probably will not see the movie this weekend since I'm doing yardwork and I'm broke as usual.

Jonah Hex is one of the few comic book western characters that I enjoyed reading about as a kid. Now that he has a new series from DC Comics, he's more popular than ever. A really cool blog dedicated to Jonah Hex can be found at Matching Dragoons (I added a link to the sidebar). You will find reviews of the new and old titles plus a few other interesting items.

Cyber-Link Superman And Batman

Here are the Cyber-Link Superman and Batman action figures from the limited edition set from 1996 (I only have the loose ones that I bought at the local Wal-Mart's):







I had them packed away for the last few years but I recently dragged them out of storage. I got rid of some books on my shelf to make space for them. I am glad that each action figure has their own special-made base because they are a little hard to stand up on their own.

I need to find a better graphics program since my iPhoto Plus 4 is really outdated. This picture did turn out better than a few of my previous pictures thanks to using two pieces of paper as background.

Catwoman Canned

Various sources are reporting that Catwoman has been cancelled and that #82 (August) is the final issue. No plans from DC Comics yet about a relaunch.

This is a loose Mission Masters 3: Inferno Extinction Batman from 1999 that I found at a local thrift store a few years ago for fifty cents:

Notice how the flash makes the color lighter and more orangish in the first picture. I have to remember to turn my flash off the next time.

Mini Cup Sticker Set

I posted about the Superman Mini Cups 1979 a few weeks ago. I found the entire mini cup sticker set on sale at eBay earlier. The twelve stickers are from 1979 and feature Superman, Lex Luthor, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Batman, Robin, Batgirl, Riddler, Joker and Penguin. The mini cups and stickers were found in quarter vending machines.

Super Corgi Juniors Cars

These are my super Corgi Junior diecast cars from the 1970s. The front row has the Joker (called Healer Wheeler on the bottom and is missing the little blue plastic knob on top) and the Penguin. The back row has the Supervan, Batcopter (with only half of the back propeller) and the Batmobile. I actually found these in a local store when I was a kid and I played with them a lot.



Not pictured is the 007 Lotus Esprit submarine/car from The Spy Who Loved Me but I might make a separate post featuring that one at a latter date.
