Another PCH Comic Book Grab Bag

I ordered another PCH Comic Book Grab Bag a few months ago and actually received it on Tuesday, April 7. This makes the third one with the first two being at PCH Comic Collection and PCH Super Hero Comic Books Plus Graphic Novel. I can't believe that it has been almost a year since the last one.

Once again there is no comics from Marvel. There are three comics from Boom! Studios, a graphic novel from DC Comics and Image, and another graphic novel from IDW Publishing. Yes, you read that right for this grab bag has three regular comics and two graphic novels.

First up is Higher Earth #3 (July 2012) from Boom! Studios. I have yet to read it but has dinosaurs so it might be an interesting science fiction comic.

Next up is Planet of the Apes Special #1 (February 2013) also from Boom! Studios. I have yet to read this either but I can't wait to do so.

I have always wanted to read the Steed and Mrs Peel series from Boom! Studios and now I get my chance to start with #0 (August 2012). I got Cover A and I have read the first few pages while I was scanning the rest of the comics in. It's set in 2000 and old agents are showing up dead.

The Mummy: The Rise and Fall of Xango's Ax (July 2008) from IDW Publishing is a prelude to the movie, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Empire and has some photos of Brendan Fraiser in the back. I haven't read this either but can't wait since I enjoyed all the mummy movies.

I also received the Spawn vs Batman graphic novel from DC Comics and Image in the last PCH Comic Book Grab Bag. While it was nice to get two graphic novels this time around, I just wish it wasn't one that I already had.

Overall, I liked the choices of the comic books in this grab bag. However, I was disappointed with getting a graphic novel that I already had. Also, I thought the value was not great once you add shipping costs to the normal price of the grab bag. This will probably be my last one from PCH for sure.

Women Wednesday: Convergence Batgirl #1

Here is the cover to Convergence Batgirl #1 (June 2015), which is now out:
Cover of Convergence Batgirl #1 from DC Comics
Stephanie Brown aka Spoiler aka Batgirl, Tim Drake aka Red Robin and Catman finds Cassandra Cain aka Batgirl aka Black Bat battling Gorilla Grodd on page nine:
Page 9 of Convergence Batgirl #1 from DC Comics
Most of the comic takes a look at what Stephanie Brown has been doing in the year since the dome came down on Gotham City (she's roommates with Cassandra). I won't go into much detail of the story here because you really need to read it for yourself. If you are a fan of Stephanie Brown and/or Cassandra Cain as Batgirl, then you will want to pick it up. Oh yeah, Tim Drake aka Red Robin seems kind of a jerk here.

The best part of the comic is the two page Batgirl profile in the back or what I like to call the "brief history of the many Batgirls":

I enjoyed Convergence Batgirl #1 overall and it was nice to see Stephanie and Cassandra back in action together. This is part one of two so I can't wait to read the next issue.

Green Lantern To Crossover With Star Trek

Big news for comic book and science fiction fans at Star Trek and Green Lantern to cross over in new comic book series. This will be Hal Jordan as Green Lantern with the new look Enterprise crew from the movies. The name of the series will be Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War. DC Comics and IDW Publishing's first crossover was Star Trek/Legion of Super-Heroes in 2011.

Thor Plushie With Avengers Milk Chocolate Easter Egg and Bar Set

I couldn't find a Captain Carrot or Hoppy the Marvel Bunny t-shirt for this week's T-shirt Thursday post so I went with a Thor toy theme instead. This Easter set consists of a ten inch Thor plushie along with an Avengers milk chocolate Easter egg and bar set. The God of Thunder is on the egg box along with Iron Man, Captain America and the Hulk.

Women Wednesday: Ciara Renee Cast as Hawkgirl

CW's Arrow/Flash Spinoff Casts Hawkgirl is not a joke for it was actually posted a few days ago at Newsarama and I have been waiting to post it here as this week's Women Wednesday post. Ciara Renee has been cast as one of the main characters in the yet unnamed super team tv series.

Women Wednesday: All-Female Pre-Flashpoint Justice League Unite in Convergence

Zatanna, Supergirl, Jesse Quick, Vixen, Jade and Mera will band together one last time in the Convergence: Justice League series according to All-Female, Pre-Flashpoint Justice League Unites for DC's Convergence. The two issue series was written by Frank Tieri (the article at the link has an interview with him that Newsarama did) with art by Vicente Cifuentes,

Seven Soldiers of Victory Returns in Convergence

The Seven Soldiers of Victory aka the Law's Legionnaires returns to DC Comics in Convergence: World's Finest according to Levitz Bids Farewell to Seven Soldiers and Scribbly Jibbet in Convergene: World's Finest. Paul Levitz wrote the issue while Joe Rubenstein and Shannon Wheeler provided the artwork. The group will consist of Vigilante, Crimson Avenger, Star-Spangled Kid, Stripsey, Shining Knight, Green Arrow and Speedy (Wing appears to be missing from this version).

I find it odd that they would be appearing in the World's Finest issue instead of Leading Comics, which was the golden age comic where the various superheroes first debuted as the Seven Soldiers of Victory.

Yes, Scribbly Jibbet, who first appeared in All-American Comics #1 (1939), also returns again in the issue.

Vending Machine Ultimate Spider-Man Tattoos

I picked up a few of the Ultimate Spider-Man temporary tattoos from a vending machine at the local grocery store. Each tattoo was fifty cents and feature a character from the Marvel Kids cartoon series. There are ten different ones in the set.

First up is Peter Parker in classic Spider-Man costume ready to shoot his webs at you (there is another tattoo of him swinging from his web):

Next up is Black Spider (I actually had to look him up since I have only seen a few episodes of the series and it turns out that he is actually Harry Osborn):

Here's the Iron Fist tattoo and he's my second favorite:

I like how Nova is captured in flight with his hands energized:

I was surprised to get White Tiger for she is the only woman in the set and she is by far my favorite one:

Here is what the backs of the tattoo cards look like (notice that there are not any numbers but it was made by Vending Supply in 2014 using only FDA certified colorants):

The tattoos that I didn't get include the swinging Spider-Man, Luke Cage, Goblin, Lizard, and Doc Octopus. I'm not sure if I will pick more up or not since I'm out of quarters and I'm happy with what I got so far.

Flash Bust PEZ

I picked up a Flash bust PEZ on my road trip this Wednesday. It was the last one at Hastings and sold for $1.99. The head is the classic costume look while the body and feet are yellow:

The PEZ candy flavors were orange and raspberry:

I love the details on his face:

New 52 DC Comics Trading Cards Pack

I went on a road trip yesterday and picked up a few items. I didn't get any comics but I did find the only pack of New 52 DC Comics trading cards at Hastings. The price for five cards was $4.99 and was originally released in 2012. Normally, I wouldn't have picked them up for that price but I figured it was the last one so why not.

First up is the front and back of the wrapper. I opened it up at the bottom while I waited at the clinic and I had a little trouble with it:

Next up is card #6, which is Batgirl:

Next up is card #16, which is Deadshot:

I'm not familiar with Dollmaker, who is on card #18, other than he is a bat-villain and that his father supposedly was the twisted doctor on Gotham:

Vixen is on card #58, which makes two women in this pack much to my delight:

Finally, I was surprised to find a chase card in the form of work in progress (WIP) #7, which is Aquaman. Basically, it's a lenticular card that shows the artwork from sketch to fully colored.

Would I buy more packs? Yes, providing I had the money for it since they are basically a dollar a card (more after you figure in the tax).
