Christmas Loot 2012 #2: The Flash Hot Wheels

My sister gave me this The Flash Hot Wheels for Christmas this year. It is pretty slick but it looks like futuristic. Why does The Flash need a car? Simple really for even he needs to recharge between runs around the world. Besides, this Hot Wheels probably has a really cool stereo and drink holder.

Christmas Loot 2012 #1: Santa PEZ 2010

This Santa PEZ was actually found by my mother at the local Wal-Mart Super Center this year. Several things makes him unique: one is that he is from 2010 according to the copyright date on the back, and two is that several sections of his head is see thru or translucent (only the red part of his cap and his face is not). Most of the translucent Santa PEZ that I have seen from that year had the entire head translucent. So either this is repaint,  recall that never happened or a special issue to Wal-Mart stores only. The PEZ candy flavors are grape, strawberry-vanilla and cherry.

It has been a rough Christmas season this year with having problems with the house and work so I am not in a jolly mood. However, I do feel like sharing this video of Elvira's Scary Christmas:

DC Comics Bids Adieu To The Spirit, Doc Savage And The Avenger

DC Comics Loses Rights To 'The Spirit,' 'Doc Savage' and 'The Avenger' pretty much sums it up. I agree that Dynamite Entertainment should jump on the characters since their visions of The Shadow and The Spider are pretty good.

Action Lab Merges With SR Graphics To Take Comics To The Danger Zone

I received the following press release in my inbox earlier so I thought I would post it here for all to enjoy:

ACTION LAB merges with SR GRAPHICS to take comics to…THE DANGER ZONE!

December 17, 2012
Action Lab Entertainment is excited to announce that Super Real Graphics publisher Jason Martin has accepted a position to spearhead its new mature readers line, Action Lab: Danger Zone, and merge his SR Graphics with the new brand.

While Action Lab is known more for its high-profile all-ages friendly properties, including the Eisner-nominated Princeless, the upcoming Molly Danger from Jamal Igle, and various licensed properties from toys and animation, it reinforces its dedication to publishing a full spectrum of comic book content. The creation of the Danger Zone imprint allows it to continue to seek out the best projects for any audience, and as the newly-appointed publisher for the brand, Martin can use his experience running a mature readers line of books to help ALE achieve bigger and better things.

In merging the two creator-owned publishing companies, Action Lab now also brings the existing Super Real Graphics properties to their new Danger Zone catalog, including the cult indie hit Zombie Tramp from Dan Mendoza. A fan favorite since its release in late 2010, Zombie Tramp’s sold-out graphic novel will be getting both a new printing, as well as a sequel series in 2013. Additionally, all of Action Lab’s current projects that qualify as 'mature' will move over to the new line, including the trade paperback collection of Dave Dwonch’s just-concluding critically acclaimed video game raunch-fest, Double Jumpers.

"Bringing Jason Martin, and Super Real Graphics, into the Action Lab family is quite the coup," says Action Lab President Kevin Freeman. "Not only do we get a proven talent in Martin to ply his trade with us, but this move also allows us to look for and publish quality work of all kinds--not just kid-friendly fare. This lets us expand our horizons, and Action Lab undoubtedly will be better for it."

“I have been a fan of Jason’s SRG brand for many years, and I’m thrilled that he will be extending his talent, positive energy, and dedication to the craft to the Action Lab stable of books,” says ALE Creative Director Dave Dwonch.

“I’m incredibly excited to take my efforts at showcasing boundary pushing, genre redefining material to an even larger audience with the backing of the talented folks at ALE,” exclaims Martin. “I’m as passionate for comics as a person can be, especially the creative and quirky ideas born from creators with a story to tell in this graphic medium, and truly love working with them to share their visions.”

In 2013 the line will launch with several new books--both from new talent (with titles like the horror-tinged desert-baked graphic novel The Trip, the viral-outbreak survival saga The Rabid, and the mind-bending genre-blending exploits of a boy and his talking kitten in Ehmm Theory), and from previously- published creators (including Tony Fleecs and Tone Rodriguez’s poetry-powered American Goth Chick, Dave Dwonch and Rob Ruddell’s time-hopping rogue nuke mythology Ghost Town, and Martin’s own Regan-era zombie lovefest Night of the 80’s Undead). There are more titles in store as well, including the aforementioned SR Graphics title Zombie Tramp, and Grant Gould’s Norse mythology by-way-of Tolkien The Wolves of Odin saga. Overall, this is a truly inspired line-up for fans of graphic fiction that will see release in print via comic book shops, as well as online via ComiXology and all major digital providers.

Action Lab received two Eisner nominations in 2012 for its critically-acclaimed all-ages comic Princeless, and has been praised for its diverse library of titles, including Pirate Eye, Fracture, and works like the upcoming Skyward and Odin Jones. Be sure to visit the Action Lab website http://www.actionlabcomics.com for more information, including links to social media outlets and submission information.

ABOUT ACTION LAB ENTERTAINMENT
Action Lab Entertainment was founded in 2010 by a group of independent comic creators with the sole intent to bring the world the most action packed, thought-provoking, entertaining comics available, thereby ushering in a new age of world peace under the dominating, yet benign control of the Action Lab. Action Lab Entertainment is the public front for all the activities of the Action Lab and its members. Although most of the Action Lab’s activities remain classified, Action Lab Entertainment can disclose that two of its many functions are the marketing of comic books through various sales outlets, and the expansion of their domination into other mediums.

Dark Shadows/Vampirella #5

Dynamite's Dark Shadows/Vampirella (November 2012) wraps up the vampires fight against Countess Bathory and her minion, Jack the Ripper:

One of the best scenes is on page four when Barnabas Collins and Vampirella crash through the skylight with both of their eyes glowing red and ready to fight:

I found the team up between werewolf Quentin Collins and werepanther Pantha to be much more exciting than the team up between the vampires. I hope there is a sequel featuring them as leads instead of supporting characters:

Women Wednesday: Cathy Lee Crosby As Wonder Woman

Before the beautiful Lynda Carter portrayed the WWII era Wonder Woman in 1975, there was Cathy Lee Crosby as the modernized Amazon Princess in 1974. They made her a super spy and gave her costume a complete overhaul. For those too young to remember, Cathy Lee Crosby was a professional tennis player and co-hosted That's Incredible from 1980 to 1984. I remember watching the pilot movie when it originally aired and I remember that it had it's moments but was best forgotten mostly because she was a blonde.

Say Goodbye To Bazooka Joe Comic Strips

For they will be replaced by puzzles and brain teasers according to Bazooka Joe Character Chewed Up And Spit Out By Topps, Inc., After 59 Years. It has been a while since I last had any Bazooka Joe for it has been hard to find in the local stores. I always enjoyed the comic strips but never enjoyed the hard as a rock gum.

Thrift Store Finds: Superman Mugs From 2006

I found two different Superman mugs from 2006 for a dollar each at a local thrift store on Saturday morning. I grabbed them up as soon as I spotted them on the shelf for finding anything with the Man of Steel around here seems to be rare nowadays. Both mugs are white with comic images so the blue tint is because I used a blue background instead of my usual white.

The first Superman mug has him in two different poses with one side showing him charging with his arms spread out:

The other side shows the Man of Steel with his arms crossed and looking like he hasn't had his coffee yet:

The second Superman mug only has one side of him flying with a determined look on his face:

The other side shows his familiar chest symbol:

Vertigo Looses Hellblazer

Looks like Vertigo's longest-running comic Hellblazer is being canceled in February, 2013 with #300 before DC Comics launches Constantine in March with a new #1. Kind of sad really but makes sense since he is a main player in Justice League Dark.

Sad Day For Players Of Vampire Wars

Vampire Wars is one of 4 Zynga Games Shutting Down. I will be saying goodbye to my vampire, Jonathan Collins, when the game shuts down for good on December 5, 2012. I will admit that I haven't played the game on a daily basis but the favor points where hard to get. I had a lot of blood but I couldn't do much with them. Here are five pictures of Jonathan Collins:
