Countdown to Halloween 2020 Day 31: Halloween PEZ 2020 Trio

I actually found the following Halloween PEZ 2020 trio at a Walgreen's while on a road trip out of town a few weeks ago. I was actually looking for the Thanksgiving Dinner Candy Corn (they are nasty by the way) when I found these. The store had only these three available and I found out later that only the Angry Pumpkinhead PEZ is new for 2020 (PEZ calls him Scary Pumpkin but he looks more angry to me).

First up is Angry Pumpkinhead PEZ with a black body:

The Happy Pumpkinhead PEZ originally came out in 2018 and has a green body:

The Vampire Boy PEZ originally came out in 2013 but he is officially called Baby Vampire:

Here is what the back of the Halloween PEZ 2020 card looks like (note that they show Mummy, Ghost, Bat, Pumpkin and Witch):

Each came with a pack of candy corn flavored PEZ candy (the taste is faint to me but they are tons better than the Turkey Dinner Candy Corn):

I still have the PEZ Witch from 2011 still in the package.

This post wraps up the Halloween 2020 season for Moongem Comics. I hope you enjoyed my posts this year and be sure check other sites at Countdown to Halloween.

Countdown to Halloween 2020 Day 30: Monster Cereals 2020

You didn't think I would let this year's Countdown to Halloween pass without doing a post on the monster cereals from General Mills did you? The local Walmart's didn't stock the family size until October 18 but I had to take a road trip to see the out of town dentist on October 16. I found the normal size boxes at the Dillons Marketplace and picked up all three. All three has the same monster party scene on the back that also includes other cereal mascots and a certain doughboy from General Mills. Of course, none of the cereal boxes has a toy prize hidden inside.

I finished off Count Chocula cereal and still have a little Franken Berry left. Neither have that strong and sweet chocolate or strawberry taste that I remember from my childhood days in the 1970s. I haven't even opened the Boo Berry box yet.

Here is front and back of the Boo Berry Monster Cereal 2020 box:

Countdown to Halloween 2020 Day 29: Singing Bowtie Ghost

I picked up this little Bowtie Ghost at the local Dollar Tree. He stands about six inches tall and that includes the black witch hat with purple trim that he's wearing (there is an orange square on the brim that serves as a buckle). The bowtie that he is wearing is black with white stars. He's holding a Jack O'Lantern treat bag. The tips of his black shoes peeking out from under his sheet suggests that he may just be a kid out trick or treating.

Singing Bowtie Ghost

The most fun part about the Bowtie Ghost is that he changes colors when he sings. The colors include blue, green, red and yellow. He sings "Trick or treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat." Yes, he is motion activated as you can tell by the little dot at the bottom of his sheet but he doesn't always work (hey, I'm just glad he does anything for a dollar).

Countdown to Halloween 2020 Day 28: Glamour Ghoul Vampira Paper Doll

This is not your ordinary paper doll for it features the original glamour ghoul herself. Vampira comes with her horror host evening gown, Liberace dress, dance suit and swimwear with tentacles. Accessories include raven headdress, bat glasses and vintage parasol. Bats and spiderwebs are added as a special bonus. I found the image on a Facebook group devoted to Elvira several weeks ago and thought it would make a great post for this week's women Wednesday, which is the last one before Halloween.

Countdown to Halloween 2020 Day 27: Stacked Jack O'Lanterns Wearing Witch Hat Figurine

This is a special post at Moongem Comics for it is #2300. I picked up this stacked Jack O'Lanterns wearing a witch hat figurine at the local Dollar General for a dollar. The bottom one is bigger than the top but they have different grins. In fact, the bottom's grin is the same one that the Jack O'Lantern Wearing Witch Hat Figurine is wearing. Maybe that one is the daddy while this pair is the mommy and kid. The pair is just slightly taller than that one. The witch hat is black with a purple trim

Countdown to Halloween 2020 Day 26: Kroger Halloween Hot Wheels 2020 Set

I was lucky enough to pick up all six die-cast cars in the Kroger Halloween Hot Wheels 2020 set last week at the local Dillons store. They are a bit higher price at $1.99 but it was worth actually getting a whole set for a change. In the past, I usually find one or two in the set. I really like the card artwork, which depicts a ghost chasing two cars. There is even a building with a Jack O'Lantern face in the upper left-hand corner.

Epic Fast is the first car in the set and it has skulls on the wheels:

The second car in the set is Twinduction and it features a horned demon on the sides plus skull on the wheels:

Hover & Out is the third car in the set and reminds me of a hovercar:

The fourth car in the set is Night Burner and is a mostly orange one with the top design that reminds me of an oven burner:

HW Poppa Wheelie is the fifth car in the set that is a green machine with the front end high in the air along with eyeballs on the sides and hood:

The sixth and last car of the Kroger Halloween Hot Wheels 2020 set is Super Stinger that not only has skulls on the wheels but also glow in the dark (this is my favorite one):

Here is what the back of the card looks like (yes, the copyright year is 2019):

I must apologize about the quality of the above pictures. The pictures either came out too bright or too dark. I probably could of gotten better pictures of the die-cast cars out of the package but I don't want to open them. Here is a photo of the Kroger Halloween Hot Wheels 2020 set that I found online to give you a better look at the cars:

Countdown to Halloween 2020 Day 25: Ghost Stories

I picked up the Ghost Stories DVD a few weeks ago at the local Dollar Tree and it was a good thing that I did. The bin full of horror movies are all gone much to my dismay. This is another DVD that has a double cover with the first one being my favorite. Ghost Stories is a 2017 British horror movie that actually started as a play. Andy Nyman play Professor Goodman, a skeptic, that receives a case file about three people that had encountered ghosts. The first is a night watchman at an abandoned aslyum (this is my least favorite). The second is a edgy young man who had a frightful encounter after crashing his dad's car in the woods (so-so . The third is an ex-banker visited by his unborn child (the oddest of the three). Of course, there's a twist at the end that ties the three cases to Professor Goodman.

To be honest, I found the first half of Ghost Stories a little on the dull side. The real payoff to this horror movie is the ending and it's really surreal. I'm glad that I got it for a dollar since I never even heard of it before picking it up. If you can find a copy cheap, then pick it up just for the weird ending.

Countdown to Halloween 2020 Day 23: Madam Satan #1

I'll admit that I have yet to read all of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina or watched any episodes of the Netflix's series with the same name. However, I had to read Madam Satan #1 and I'm so glad that I did. This is a very good one-shot issue from Archie Horror and I highly recommend picking it up while you can. Madame Satan #1 was released on October 21, 2020 so you might still find a copy at your local comic book shop.

For those who don't know, Madam Satan actually made her first appearance on the cover of Pep Comics #15 (May 1941) published by MLJ Comics, which eventually became Archie Comics. She didn't actually appear inside until #16 and her series lasted until #21. A certain teenager named Archie Andrews replaced her in Pep Comics #22. A second version of her with the name Madame Satan appeared in The Fox #1 (October 2013) from Dark Circle Comics (formerly Red Circle Comics). She returned a year later with the original spelling of her name in the last pages Chilling Adventures of Sabrina #1 (October 2014). Michelle Gomez portrays her on the Netflix series.

There are actually two different covers. The regular cover is by Julius Onta while the variant cover is by Robert Hack (I'm partial to Onta's cover):

Countdown to Halloween 2020 Day 22: Jack O'Lantern Wearing Witch Hat Figurine

I picked up this 2-1/2" tall Jack O'Lantern wearing witch hat figurine at the local Dollar General for a dollar. He is smiling because he is wearing a black witch hat with gold trim. Of course, he may be a she for all I know and I should probably be calling her Jackie O'Lantern.

Countdown to Halloween 2020 Day 21: Elvira The Omega Ma'am

I received an email from the Mistress of the Dark last week but waited to post about it until this week's Women Wednesday. In case you didn't know, Elvira's The Omega Ma'am is now on Kickstarter. Here is what she wrote about it:

"I've teamed up with my Double Dave Minions (writer David Avallone and artist Dave Acosta) to write a brand new story that all fans of the Mistress of the Dark are bound to love. It's ripped straight from today's crazy headlines. A post-apocalyptic Los Angeles crawling with zombies! Oh wait, maybe that hasn't quite happened - yet! It's up to me to figure out what's going down and save the world. But first I'll need a cup of joe!

"It's 48 glorious pages of terror and titillation. You can get your copy signed by me too! We're also offering all kinds of goodies to fill your trick or treat bag. Catch up on all my latest antics with a binge-ready stack of digital comics. Get exclusive trading cards, collectible coins, prints, and even my official Spectral Switchboard to make a call across the ether! Spooky!"

Countdown to Halloween 2020 Day 20: Brightest Day Aftermath: The Search For Swamp Thing

Brightest Day Aftermath: The Search For Swamp Thing was a three issue mini series from DC Comics that ran from June to August in 2011. John Constantine returns to the DC Universe to convince Superman and Batman that the newly resurrected Alec Holland must die so that his soul can merge with the Green again and become Swamp Thing once more. Zatanna, Madame Xanadu and Deadman also appear to help the Hellblazer. Here are all six covers for the mini series:

Countdown to Halloween 2020 Day 19: Miniature Broom Witch Figurine

This miniature broom witch figurine is only 3-1/4" tall. She is wearing a black dress, purple cape and black pointy hat with purple trim. She is holding a homemade straw broom in both hands. She has shoulder-length brown hair amd white eyebrows. The miniature broom witch has some heft to her. I picked her up at the local Dollar General and she looks like a good witch instead of a wicked one.

Countdown to Halloween 2020 Day 18: 3D Halloween Erasers

I have always loved 3D erasers ever since I was kid. You didn't dare try to erase with them but they were fun to put on pencil tops. Unfortunately, the ones I had didn't stand the test of time and were either lost or tossed when they broke. In 2014, I posted about the Halloween Erasers that I picked up at the local Dollar General. I picked up these 3D Halloween Erasers from the local Dollar Tree. The five erasers include an orange pumpkin, a fat black bat, a purple skull, a green owl and a blue skull. They kind of cheated by having two skulls but at least they are different colors. They are also made in China under the Premiere label (the back shows that they were distributed by Greensbier International, Inc. aka Dollar Tree).

Countdown to Halloween 2020 Day 17: The Nightmare Before Christmas Hot Wheels #3

I picked up this The Nightmare Before Christmas Hot Wheels #3 at the local Dillons a few weeks ago. The '59 Cadillac Funny Car is all black with orange windows. There are pumpkins on the sides, Jack and Sally next to each other is on the top and a spiderweb with Jack's face on the hood. This is from the Hot Wheels Premium Disney 2019 line so it was about five dollars. Others in the set includes Beauty and the Beast Super Van, Aladdin Deco Delivery, Mulan Dream Van XGW and Lion King Custom GMC Panel Van. This was the only one the store had and it was mixed in with the regular Hot Wheels. I usually see Hot Wheels Premium cars at Walmart's but I have never seen this series or the one based solely on The Nightmare Before Christmas.
