Iron Man 2 by Alexander Irvine

I finished reading Iron Man 2 by Alender Irvine last evening and greatly enjoyed it. The novel is based on the screenplay by Justin Theroux and have plenty of action scenes as well as techno babble. I liked the origins of Ivan Vanko aka Whiplash and the reason why he wanted to destroy Tony Stark. Not once was Natalie aka Natasha called the Black Widow but it was cool that she was an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. The origins of War Machine was pretty cool too. I have not seen the movie yet and I will probably wait until it gets on DVD. Overall, I give the novelization an A- because the techno babble does slow down the pacing at times.

The Elseworlds tale written by Carry Bates will take a look at what if baby Kal-El arrived on earth with his parents. Lara has to be the hottest MILF in comics now. The interior art will be done by Renato Arlem.

GaF Double Vue Presents Superman In Wisp Of Wickedness

I had a GaF Double Vue Movie Player when I was a teen that played silent cartoons in a loop. I would go through AA batteries watching Superman in Wisp of Wickedness and Wicked Warlock, Batman in The Evil Penguin, Road Runner in Wild About Harry, Mighty Mouse in Beauty on the Beach, Heckle & Jeckle in Wild Life, Captain America in Fights the Sleeper and the Hulk in Rampage. The cartoons were not very long, perhaps a minute or two, and they were very heavily edited versions of longer cartoons. The motor gave out so I ended up having to throw away the GaF Double Vue Movie Player that looked like this:

I kept the cartridges until I got a film projector several years later at a yard sale. I took the cartridges apart (yes, I hear you gasping at the thought of destroying them) and spliced the cartoons together so I could enjoy them on the wall. The only super 8 mm film that I ever had was Jason and the Argonauts #1: Battle with Talos that I also found at a yard sale. I may no longer have the GaF Double Vue Player, the cartridges or the packaging but I do have the film. I am presenting eight strips from Wisp of Wickedness starring Superman:

Goodbye Heroes

Official: NBC cancels 'Heroes' comes to no surprise to most. What surprised me was that the tv series lasted for four seasons. I will miss Hiro the most.

Goodnight Frank Frazetta

I just read the post, Frank Frazetta Dead at 82, and tears just filled my eyes. I have been a fan of his every since seeing his artwork on Edgar Rice Burroughs paperback covers and then the horror magazine covers for Creepy, Eerie and Vampirella. He died of a stroke on May 10, 2010 and he indeed will be missed.

Thrift Store Find: Earthquake In Metropolis (Superman Returns)

Yesterday morning I found Earthquake In Metropolis (Superman Returns) by David E. Sky (2006) for a dollar at a local thrift store. The six inches by nine inches volume has a credits page, thirty pages of pictures from the movie with captions and an ad page of the other books in the series that includes Last Son of Krypton, Coming Home, I Am Superman and Be A Hero. I like the two-page spread of Lex Luthor's miniature Metropolis the best.

I believe it is only fitting to have this week's Woman Wednesday devoted to Modesty Blaise since her creator, Peter O'Donnell passed away on May 3, 2010.

Newsarama reported that Peter O’Donnell, creator of Modesty Blaise, passed away at the age of ninety on May 3, 2010. His collaboration with artist Jim Holdaway on the female action hero/undercover trouble-shooter/enforcer lasted almost forty years. He also wrote historical romances as Madeleine Brent.

Thrift Store Find: Spider-Man DVDs And Switchplate

I found two Spider-Man DVDs at one thrift store this morning for three dollars each. Daredevil vs. Spider-Man is from 2003 and the extras include "King Pinned" from 1966, a Fantastic Four episode featuring Daredevil and Stan Lee's Soapbox. Spider-Man: The Venom Saga is from 2005 and the extras include Stan Lee's Soapbox, five exclusive episode introductions by Stan Lee and "The Venomous Web" that reveals Venom's origins by his creators.

At another thrift store, I found a plastic Spider-Man switch plate for fifty cents. The screws were included in the baggie.
