Women Wednesday: Black Canary From BOP #0

I am liking Black Canary's costume the more I am exposed to it. This is the first panel from Birds of Prey #0 (November 2012). This issue shows her meeting Starling and Batgirl for the first time while she is working undercover for the Penguin.

Pick up the issue and you will find what she wears under the costume.

Meet DC's New Beowulf

Wow, DC's new Beowulf is a lot different from the old. For starters, he appears in a back up story in Sword of Sorcery #0 (November 2012) titled "The Perfect Soldier." His hair is white like the Warlord's and he has long sideburns like Wolverine and Sabretooth. He has one crazy colored eye and a weird tattoo on his chest. At least, this Beowulf still carries a big sword and knows how to use it.

Check out Diversions of the Groovy Kind read the first issue of Beowulf #1 (January 1975).

Christopher Wietrick and KC McNeely thinks so too according to Kansas Artist Campaigns To Rename Hometown Smallville. I would love to see it happen for I live about a hundred miles west of Hutchinson, Kansas.

I would also like to see Goodland, Kansas renamed Jericho.

The Society of unordinary Young Ladies

If you are looking for a new take of your favorite sitcoms, then you might enjoy The Society of unordinary Young Ladies. The first five issues are available of this spin on Moore's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I have yet to read all the issues but I like what I have read so far.

Book Review: Spider-Man and Fantastic Four: Wreckage

Spider-Man and Fantastic Four: Wreckage (Boulevard/Bryon Priess, November 1997) by Eric Fein and Pierce Askegren is the third and final book in the Doom's Day trilogy. Five big black robots breaks Doctor Octopus out of prison and five more steal his tentacles, which are held elsewhere. Peter Parker aka is married to Mary Jane and investigates the break out. SAFE enlists the help of Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic to study one of the robots. The robots are based on ones used by Hydra but the weaponry is so advanced that only Doctor Doom could have sent them. Doom forces Octopus to work on a device that will harness the energy from the Negative Zone and that means sneaking into the home of the Fantastic Four.

I finished reading Spider-Man and Fantastic Four: Wreckage a few nights ago and I found it slow at first but picks up quickly. I have not read the first two books in the trilogy but there is enough explanation of what went on before that this book can be read without having to read the other two books. The ending was predictable but the epilogue made up for it. Overall, I give the book a solid B.

Comic legend, Joe Kubert has passed away at the age of eighty-five according to Newsarma. Not a bad run for someone who started drawing comic books professionally at the age of twelve and was still working.
