Women Wednesday: The Elvira Show Unaired Pilot
Today is a special treat even though it is not Halloween season. CBS did a pilot for The Elvira Show in 1993 but it was never aired. Katherine Helmond played her Aunt Minerva, Phoebe Augustine played her niece, Paige, and John Paragon was the voice of her talking cat, Renfield.

Animated Green Lantern Happy Meal Panel
Saturday night would have been a cause for celebration since we were getting Happy Meals for supper. I was waiting in anticipation to find out which animated Green Lantern toy I was going to find in the box. Unfortunately, we made the mistake of ordering a boy and a girl Happy Meal instead of just two for boys. You guessed it...no Green Lantern toy in either box. Instead we got two green balls with a very small crab figurines from the Squinkies line. We were too tired to go back and find out why there was not Green Lantern toy. I figured they probably ran out of the boy toys.
I was also a little saddened by the Happy Meal box. Remember when each line had their own separate box? The animated Green Lantern line only had one panel with a punch out ring, a scrambled word puzzle and a picture of the superhero. The other panels were devoted to Squinkies, a close-up of an apple and a maze.
Note: Unfortunately, the bottom of the panel was auto cropped by my scanner but it only had the "Ask about our special toys for children under five" text.

Scary Saturday: Barnabas Collins On Famous Monsters Cover
Famous Monsters of Filmland #281 (May/June 2012) has Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins on the cover.
This is not the first time that the vampire from Dark Shadows has graced the cover of the horror zine. Jonathan Frid as Barnabas Collins appeared on #52 (October 1968):
And again on #59 (November 1969):
I have neither in my collection since they were both several years before I started buying Famous Monsters of Filmland as a kid.

Now Reading: Jack Hammer: Political Science
I'm currently reading a review copy of Jack Hammer: Political Science from Action Lab Entertainment that collects issues one to four. This superhero/crime novel story is not light reading but I'm greatly enjoying it so far. Imagine if Power Man retired from being a superhero and became a private investigator like Mike Hammer. Jack Hammer: Political Science is now available for pre-order from Diamond (APR120744) with a June 2012 release in comic book shops and elsewhere.

Thrift Store Find: Rare Masquerade With Jokester Cover
I went to a new thrift store that recently opened in town yesterday morning and found the October 2010 issue of Masquerade featuring the Jokester. The timing could not have been better since the rumor mill is that DC Comics will be publishing a comic series featuring the character sometime later this year.
